In today's episode, the seats are reversed as co-host Carly Hester shares her own personal story and what brought her to the mental health field and to become such a passionate advocate! We asked her a few questions just to give an idea of who she is...
Carly's Role at NAMI Philly: Affiliate Director
What is your relationship to mental health? I personally have my own mental health journey that today I am able to openly share with others. Sharing my story has been such a healing experience and something I will continue to do. I consider myself to be a person who is growing and overcoming each and every day. I am also a friend and family member of individuals living with mental illness and will forever be the best advocate I can be.
What is your most effective coping skill? Positive affirmations and quiet reflection.
What does recovery mean to you? To me, recovery means consciously waking up and choosing, joy, health and hope and not letting my past define who I am.
What is the best way to start your day? Coffee, quiet time and then a good podcast on my way to the office!
What three words best describe you? Bold. Resilient. Tenacious.
Other than mental health, what is a subject you are passionate about? Foster care and adoption! I am a proud foster momma!
What is your favorite ice cream flavor? I have never met an ice cream I did not like, but if I HAD to pick, I would pick Java Chip or some sort of coffee flavor!
