ThePrint POD: Pinarayi Vijayan’s double-speak on women’s security needs to be called out
It’s time to listen to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. He has raised a very good point at a vital juncture in our history. If parties started allowing people to speak and vote on important issues at least on some issues, not all, at least on some issues without the fear of anti-defection law, our Parliament will get both better and more productive. So will Indian politics where the greatest shame now is the total absence of inner party democracy. Watch Episode 1596 of #CutTheClutter, where ThePrint Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta explains why the VP’s remarks against the parliamentary whip system must be heeded by the powers that be.
Tamil Nadu’s Iron Age report is a turning point in Indian archaeology. It needs more research
Donald Trump’s political acumen lies not just in creating shock and awe but in testing boundaries without breaking them entirely. He is exceptionally skilled at compelling adversaries to yield to his demands, but this doesn’t imply abandoning America’s allies in toto. Watch Foreign Policy Expert Swasti Rao explain:
Archaeologist KK Muhammed, in a recent interaction with podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, shared his views on reconstructing old temples. The former regional director of Archaeological Survey of India and a key figure in the excavation at the disputed Ayodhya site, Muhammed said that while he is dedicated to restoring historical structures, there is a personal, philosophical stance behind his efforts. Gestures of goodwill like Muhammed’s acknowledgement of historical realities are both laudable and timely. They counter populist voices that seek to paint every Muslim as an enemy of the majority, while also confronting conservative elements within the community who resist introspection. A government that doesn’t cater to populist voices, combined with individual efforts, like those of KK Muhammed, will help shape a better future for India. The Modi governments have been soaking the middle class and giving away to the poor. The middle class will keep complaining and still stay loyal because they like Modi and his call to Hinduised nationalism too much. They are happy that Muslims are so effectively sidelined and, in any case, if not Modi, who?
