In this episode, James and I discuss MANY THINGS that shaped our lives with our longtime friend and collaborator, Kris Seppala. A lot of what we talk about involves Kris' experiences being back over in his homeland: Finland. Not much of a culture shock for him, since he spent some of his childhood there, but there are plenty of oddities and stories he's experienced since his return. We talk our filmmaking processes, writing, favorite movies & TV shows. We swap stories of the film school days, living in Georgia, and our hopes for a more productive future in the world of cinema and beyond. This conversation is as organic as it can get, seeming how we had a technical malfunction with our first attempt at getting Kris on the air with us!

In this episode, James and I discuss ONE THING that shaped our lives. In this day and age, there are superheroes  all around us. Whether from a particular cinematic universe, or Uncle Billy at the local loony bin. There are those of us who either exhibit hero-like traits or portray them in some form or another. Every superhero has an origin story and James and I try and link that back to our own childhood experiences. What sort of superhero power did we want growing up? Who was the superhero we looked up to? This is yet another one of our crazy conversations that inevitably ends up finding some rabbit trails that all involve the things that shape us.

In this episode, James and I discuss ONE THING that shaped our lives. People work really hard, and they're in pursuit of happiness. But at what point will they become satisfied and see the fruits of their labor? To us, it's about perspective and a little thing call "Delayed Gratification". It's a concept that not many follow, but has returned as a social trend since the past 20 years has allowed us to reach an insane peak of advanced technology and created a sense of urgency in our careers and life choices. Slowing it down, focusing on one thing at a time, and taking in that simplicity are parts of the formula. But ultimately it comes down to setting a goal in one particular aspect of your life and allowing time to mature that part of you. Wait until the end of the episode, so you can fully enjoy it.

Why not talk about something that is so profound in our growth, health, and creative processes? James and I delve deep into the REM sleep of this topic as we discuss it's effects on our health and how we still try and be productive and focused on very little of it. There are bedtime stories (some that actually keep us up at night) and ways of incorporating white noise to drown out our overactive minds, and then there's additives or supplements that help us achieve the healthy amount of sleep. It's all a dream in this conversation, so grab a pillow? Don't fall asleep listening. We promise it's not boring.

James and I have both had different experiences with the family ritual of going to your local Blockbuster or Hollywood video and discovering what's on the shelf! Video rental stores are a big part of entertainment history and has affected our lives in one way or another. For Jonathan, the ritual of renting a movie on a Friday night was an awe-inspiring family event that greatly shaped his career path when he got older. For James, it was filled with bittersweet moments in his life where family restrictions or no supply kept him from grabbing a new release movie off the shelf.

In this episode, James and I discuss ONE THING that shaped our lives.  A New Year is almost upon us, and James and I have decided to talk about New Years resolutions and the fear of commitment and focus on these resolutions. 2020 was beyond the norm, and absolutely a year that shaped all of our lives. There's much to discuss and recall when planning for another 12 months. We experienced an Election, a Pandemic, and the Tiger King. We think we need a break from taking in the chaos of the world and rather we should look inward and beyond.  Turn off your phone, the TV, the tablet, and your Apple Watch. It's time to get introspective. Introspection is the key for how we tackle the residue of a crazy year like 2020, and James and I both want people to plan on being surprised in the New Year and optimistic for good things.
