There are social "obligations" or what people deem "necessary"; there are items that we believe we need to have, and there are events that we feel the need to take part in.  Hopefully we don't go full Sheldon Cooper in this episode, but there's a lot that we discuss in terms of what is overrated, or even underrated in life. We circle through materialism as being a key component of human life that can sometimes elevate a form of emptiness that leads the individual to labeling something "overrated". There's plenty that's overrated in this episode.

The ability to feel and understand someone else's pain, joy, confusion or enlightenment, is an incredible ability that we all possess. But are there limits to this? Or constraints? James and I share a few anecdotes of how we've been impacted by stories (whether fictional or in real life) that have shaped the way we feel empathy for those around us. We trail a bit in the direction of understanding the effects of screen-time, but inevitably circle back to realize that we're always empathizing with others, in person or virtually.
