While We Wait: Abraham
Abraham was given a promise: to be the father of a nation, which he heard as the promise of a coming son, an heir, progeny. He decided that waiting was too long. From Abraham, we learn one thing not to do while we wait, and that is to adopt a do-it-yourself plan. A form of that for us might be “getting ready for Jesus to come,” as if we could do that! What does that even mean?
This week one of our #WhoLifeTakeAways asked: How can you live life in freedom of the promise?
How have you learned to live in the freedom of the promise? Of course we would love to hear your thoughts and ideas by using one of the following:

Gathered At The Table
Any time change takes place, there is a natural, and sometimes personal, resistance to it. What does it mean to celebrate Communion together during COVID? Though we aren't physically in the same place, it's important to remind ourselves of the extravagant grace of our Savior. So gather some type of bread or cracker, and some type of beverage, and join us!
This week one of our #WholeLifeTakeAways asked: How integral is the concept of being a servant to communion?

SERIES - Simply Gospel: It’s Simply The Only Way
Any time change takes place, there is a natural, and sometimes personal, resistance to it—not only because of the pain of change but also because of the fear. The idea that our self-preservation (or more often our self-interests) will not be met can bring a fair amount of discouragement. We all would like to have an infection inside our bodies cut out, but it’s never a happy thought to realize that we need it done now. The Gospel is truly good news to a lost world. However, we cannot ignore that it is also a personal affront to our living every day. Some will walk away from it, while others will realize that it’s the only way to live.

SERIES - Simply Gospel: Simply Profound
There is something profoundly wonderful about experiencing or tasting something the way it was originally intended. In the Bible, we read the story of Cain and Abel and about the first murder that took place. Here, we see the plight of mankind played out in the first two children of Adam and Eve. Do we give in to our own way, or do we strive to do it God’s way? The hard part is that it ends up being seemingly disastrous with either decision. So, what’s the point? What’s the “Good” of the “Good News?”
One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked: Paul tells us in Romans 3 that our partnership with Christ in sharing the gospel does not put us right with God, meaning that even our good intentions and good actions are not what make us righteous or saved - (Only Christ) – So, what should motivate us as the underlying reason to follow Christ and make disciples?
So, what about you? Where do you find your motivation and reason to follow Christ and make disciples? We would love to hear how you see this in your life.

SERIES - Simply Gospel: Nothing Added
If you were given news of the best restaurant in town and then given burdensome conditions that were required in order to eat there, how would you respond? The news of this restaurant becomes a bit less enchanting. So, too, with the Gospel – when we add our own conditions to God’s simple truth, we not only dampen its appeal, but we also diminish its meaning.
One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked: In the Story of the Lost Son in Luke 15: there are rule followers and rule breakers. We've probably found ourselves on both of those sides. Which side makes it harder for us to understand a loving father who's always willing to take BOTH of us back?
So, what about you? Which prodigal do you find familiar struggles with? What was it like when you realized that the Father was willing to take you back? And when He was willing to take ‘the other brother’ back as well. We would love to hear how you see this in your life.

SERIES - WholeLife Discipleship: Discipling Others
What does modern discipleship look like? How do we do this during a pandemic? Should we all be proclaiming the good news to the world or starting arguments on social media? What ranks higher: teaching doctrine or loving people? Can we do both?
One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked: What are your thoughts about the idea that God invites us to play and we turned it into work?
So, what about you? Have you found the invitation to play? Have you accepted it or put it on the back burner? Or, and this is OK, have you found it be ‘not for you’? I would love to hear how you see this in your life.

SERIES - WholeLife Discipleship: Discipling Like Jesus
“Follow Me.” These were Jesus’ words to his disciples. What did that mean? In his book I Am a Follower, Leonard Sweet says it’s not about leading, but about following. What was Jesus’ method for discipleship? What would happen in our families and community if we discipled like Jesus?
One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked: Why do we want to make being a disciple about more than just following Jesus?
So, who just popped into your head? Who needs to know and how can we show them that the welcome is always available from the leader, if not from the followers?

SERIES - WholeLife Discipleship: A WholeLife Disciple
Christian discipleship doesn’t happen in a bubble. A disciple is part of a community. We are all a disciple of someone. Whose disciple are you, and what is the cost of being a disciple?
One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked: Why do we want to make being a disciple about more than just following Jesus?
So, we would love to hear not only why you think we want to make discipleship about more than just following Jesus, but also, how have you find ways to be a disciple that were easier or more rewarding than you first thought? How has your discipleship journey unfolded?

SERIES - Worshipping In Mr. Rogers Neighborhood: Look For The Helpers
When Fred Rogers was a boy, and saw something on the news that scared him, his mother’s counsel to bring him comfort was, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’” The year 2020 will always be known as the year of COVID 19. Quarantines, stay-at-home orders, masks, and anti-bacterial soaps. While there were many who rose to the occasion by self-sacrificially serving on the front lines, helping neighbors or simply following suggested protocols, others stockpiled toilet paper. It’s normal to fear in situations like this, but could the way we manage that fear and how we respond in a crisis reflect on the trust and hope we find in our God?
One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked: How possible do think it is for us to have no human as an enemy but rather make enemies of hate, meanness, greed, etc.?
We are hoping that this series and the humble and empathetic nature of Fred Rogers has given us a renewed spirit of being a good neighbor. A neighbor you can count on to be the friend and support that we all desperately need. The neighbor that treats everyone the same and lends a handful of resources willingly and without reservation. We would love to hear what you think about the time and the world we are living in being quite possibly the greatest opportunity in our lifetime to be the helpers?

SERIES - Worshipping In Mr. Rogers Neighborhood: I Like You Just The Way You Are
When Fred Rogers was a boy, and saw something on the news that scared him, his mother’s counsel to bring him comfort was, “Look for the helpers. One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked: How possible do think it is for us to have no human as an enemy but rather make enemies of hate, meanness, greed, etc.?
This might be the hardest hitting takeaway that I can remember. How possible is it? I wish this wasn’t a question we needed to ask ourselves in 2020, but yet here are we are. As Christians is there a more important show of love for our neighbors, the world, than to live our lives with love and equality for all? So many Christians will leave this issue at the feet of government which has been so complicit in the perpetuation of racism and class warfare that they need someone else to solve this issue. I propose that they need us, the body of Christ. The question that remains is whether or not we will answer the call.
