On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, an African-American man, was killed in the Powderhorn community of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

While Floyd was handcuffed and lying face down on a city street during an arrest, Derek Chauvin, a white American Minneapolis police officer, kept his knee on the right side of Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. According to the criminal complaint against Chauvin, 2 minutes and 53 seconds of that time occurred after Floyd became unresponsive.

Please listen to the entire episode, all 8 minutes and 46 seconds, and in your mind put yourself on that street with a 200+ pound man driving your neck into the pavement. Imagine the horror of not being able to breathe and your pleas for help, for breath, for your mother, and simply to live are ignored.

We stand with individuals all over the world today for #BlackOutTuesday who are weary in the battle for racial equality and to take a stand against the “racism and inequality that exists from the boardroom to the boulevard.”

Please pray with us as the fallout from this tragic and senseless murder continues to play across every media outlet and in cities all across our nation and the world. Pray for healing. Pray for peace. Pray for the 'greatest of these' to be found in each of us with forgiving hearts to move us towards equality for all.

  • Episode 208: Paul's Letter to the Orlandonians - Instructions For Christian Households

Paul's Letter to the Orlandonians: Instructions For Christian Households

These are some of the words of Paul that sometimes cause some challenges. They mirror his words in Ephesians. Wives to husbands, husbands to wives, children to parents, parents to children, slaves and their earthly masters, and earthly masters to the slaves. A different time and a different culture, but what principles are there to bring to Orlando in the 21st Century?

One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked: How do we enlarge the circle of the collective “we”?

So, how do we come together and enlarge the circle of we? Would love to hear what you think might be the most important and best way to move us towards that reality. Send us your questions, comments, or share a way that you’ve been able to see things as ‘we’ by using one of the following:

  • Episode 207: Paul's Letter to the Orlandonians - How Does A Free New Lifer Live?

Paul's Letter to the Orlandonians: How Does A Free New Lifer Live?

Paul gives guidance on living as a new creature in Christ. We put away, put to death, the sinful earthly things in us—and live free of all that. Even to the removal of the normal distinctions of Jew and Gentile. And there’s a good bit of directive about relationships as a Free New Lifer!

One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked: How successful is Satan in 1) getting you to beat yourself up when you mess up, and 2) getting you to project your self-disgust onto God making him disgusted with you in your mind?

Unless you are still a ’New Lifer’, you have experienced the negative self talk and probably the thoughts that God must be disgusted with me because of the things I’ve done.  We all have.  God can and will help and we would love to hear your story of God working in your life to improve your outlook in this area. Send us your questions, comments, or share your story by using one of the following:

  • Episode 206: Paul’s Letter To The Orlandonians - Freedom From Rules!

We sometimes forget the controlling nature of the rules of those who wished to impose all the laws of Judaism on the early church. As followers of Christ, we are called to live in obedience to him, not in obedience to traditions—shadows that were pointing to the reality we now have in Christ. We are no longer bound by the rules of this world and can live in freedom.

One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked:  How do you feel about rules and law not being able to fix us?

This can be a touchy subject, and whether you agree or disagree with the rules and the law’s inability to fix us, I would love to hear how your life has changed for the better because of your views. Of course you can remain anonymous if you’d like.  Please use one of the following:

  • Episode 205: Paul’s Letter to the Orlandonians: Agonizing For Others

In Paul's letter, he agonizes over people he’s never even met. He wants to be sure people are told the simple truth of Christ, and Christ alone, and that this gospel is for everyone.

One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked: Who would you be willing to agonize in prayer for their salvation?

The work of God in Christ makes peace for and with fallen humanity. Salvation is not our work, but that of God in Christ.

  • Episode 203: Paul’s Letter to the Orlandonians: Prayed Over
We may think of Paul’s conversation about his prayers for the Colossians as prayers for us. However, are the things he says and praises about the Colossians true about us? How will it impact us to think about the content of this prayer and what we might want for one another from God?

One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked:  WholeLife Church’s mission is “Loving people into a lifelong friendship with God.  What is the evidence that we are doing it?

  • Episode 202: Socially Distancing and Socially Distant
One of the results of social distancing is that we are more likely to become socially distant.  Just because you’re practicing social distancing it doesn’t mean you have to be socially distant.  We can still call people, text people, video chat people, engage more deeply with people that we're quarantined with and so on.  The trouble is sometimes, even when we’re not practicing social distancing, we can still be socially distant.

One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked:  How have you intentionally tried to connect during this time to avoid for yourself or relieve another’s feeling of being socially distant?

If there was ever a week, or a time to share what Jesus is doing in your life to connect with others who desperately need a word of hope and the assurance that the #Resurrection and the #Salvation it brings is in fact real, and for all, this is it!  Please share with all of us what God has put on your heart to reach out and connect.  We will play your voicemail responses on next week’s podcast, or if we have enough we will put together an extra episode with just the responses.  We’ll call it the #WholeLifeHope episode!  Imagine sharing with friends, family, and neighbors that need to hear from someone who is leaning on God to get through this!.  You can share by using one of the following:

  • Episode 201: Finding Hope
How do you move towards hope?  In our current world with all that is going on, there can easily be a move to cynicism. Christians are called to be people of faith and faith, exercised well, leads to hope – a change in direction from cynicism. How can we make sure to be people of hope?

One of our #WholeLifeTakeAways this week asked:  How confident are you that God can keep you through the days ahead?

Please reach out if you have questions or just need someone to bounce things off of.  Finding peace in our lives may be the most important spiritual discipline and joy creator we can gift ourselves, and it will only come in its purest form from Jesus.  As always we'll take your questions, your answers, or comments on something we said, didn’t say, or how you feel about the subject at hand.  You can leave us your insights by using one of the following:
