In this verse, Mark shows us how people who were not even followers of Christ, who had an upper position in society in Jesus' time, "gathered up the courage" to do what was right. This man was Joseph of Arimathea. It says in Mark 15 that he "was waiting for the kingdom of God." So we see that he saw God in Jesus.
In the Bible, many people have gathered up courage to do what was right in God's eyes and stood up for God. We have the stories of Abraham, Moses, David, Esther, and so many others.
No too many decades ago, we have read of many individuals, such as Mandela and Gandhi, who gathered up courage to stand up for what was right. As women and men of faith, we are called to stand up for our beliefs in public. We are to represent Jesus, for we are his ambassadors. As women, our role in standing for our faith and our gender is more crucial than ever.
Today, I encourage you to gather the strength and courage to stand for what is right. As children of God, we have seen the kingdom of God manifest in our intimate lives and in the public sphere. Do not let the confusion and distractions of the world deter you from standing for God.
