In this week's episode, I answer a facebook DM:
"I’m turning 49 this year and for the past few years have wanted to add a strengthening component to my exercise - right now I’m only doing yoga.
But I really don't know how and what I should be doing. How does one start, where do they go, should they work with a trainer, etc.? I looked over some of your podcasts, but I'm still unsure how to start. Should I join a gym? "
I share the importance of strength training for our bone health, our blood glucose (blood sugar) levels, and how it is affects living independently in our retirement years. I offer 3 ways to start strength training for the first time. Whatever way you choose, make sure the teacher covers the form for the Big 6 foundational exercises: Squat, Lunge, Hinge, Push, Pull, Carry.
Coach Michelle Farrell and I created Fitness Academy for Beginners specifically to teach beginners how to start lifting weights. Join the waitlist for our Fall 2023 cohort: https://www.straightupstrong.com/fab
