Valerie Armstrong, best known for her work as story editor on Lodge 49, first conceived of the show in 2017 around the time that Erinn Hayes was fired unceremoniously from Kevin James’ show Kevin Can Wait. She pitched her idea to AMC and worked tandem with executive producers Rashida Jones and Will McCormack to get the show underway.
