This week it’s all about HARDCORE. What is hardcore? How did this genre full of suburban knuckleheads bloom from the comparatively cosmopolitan world of 70s punk rock? How in the world did this small teenage scene go from 80s squalor to following Krishna in the 90s, get hip hop focused in the 2000s, and become mostly metal all along the way? We pick out a handful of songs that we think best illustrate the dimensions of hardcore and discuss what these bands all did to inspire a legion of other bands and sub-sub genres in their wake.
