The Tampa Bay Rays lost the opening game of a three-game series against the reigning World Series champions, Texas Rangers 9-3. Ryan Pepiot’s Rays debut was not the stuff of fairy tales as he got hit with a three-run bomb in the first inning after giving up a couple of walks to start the game. After settling down, he looked better and was able to provide 5.2 innings pitched for the Rays. The bats were mostly quiet except for a Richie Palacios solo shot and a Jose Siri two-run shot.
