    Title: Dexter Is Delicious
    Subtitle: Dexter Book 5
    Author: Jeff Lindsay
    Narrator: Jeff Lindsay
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 19 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-25-15
    Publisher: Orion Publishing Group
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Suspense
    Publisher's Summary:
Everything's changing for our friendly neighbourhood serial killer. As if getting married wasn't enough to complete his nice-guy persona, Dexter is now the proud father of a baby girl. And, disconcertingly, he actually seems to care.
But even if fatherhood is distracting Dexter from his midnight excursions to rid Miami of a few more lowlifes, there's no let-up at work. Two young girls are missing - and it's not long before one of the bodies turns up partially eaten. But as Dexter and Miami PD's finest investigate, Dexter can't shake the feeling that somebody's watching him....
    Narrated by the author.
    Members Reviews:
    brilliantly written, brilliantly read
Read by the author himself, you can really hear the different charchters in his voice. Of course the overall Dexter monologue is perfectly done. Highly recommended!
    deadly dexter
entertaining dark funny and gruesome all good fun in the miami madness that's dexters home
    Launching Lovely Lilianne
Dexter is changing. He's married now with two step children and a new baby of his own. And he takes his family responsibility very seriously. So seriously, in fact, he is deliberately rejecting the call of his Dark Passenger.
But life is funny, isn't it? It has a way of turning things around: so,, in pursuit of the quiet life, Dexter finds himself contending with not just nappies and car runs, but also missing girls, pseudo vampires and murderous cannibals as well as his ever angry sister and the sudden reappearance of an undesirable uncle for his children. Poor Dexter - it's never easy when he tries to be good.
Of all of the stories so far, I found this one the least (I hope!) believable. But the sheer pleasure of seeing the world from the Dexter perspective, the sardonic humour and inspired writing ( no hairs standing up on the back of the neck here; instead there is the "slow creep of uneasy toes along my spine") all voiced by the author himself, is a delight too good to miss.

    DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!!
I bought this book based on the many, many good reviews....however, I should have paid closer attention to the bad reviews as they were closer to what this book actually was, bad.
I appreciate that someone sat down for hours to write this and applaud the same as I am not a writer. However, the great many good reviews makes me wonder what they heard...
The characters are simplistic and overblown in their respective roles. The plot is interesting, but not well developed. The political views and Obama bashing is too much. The psychological issues dealt with by the various characters are surface deep and appear to be simplified to reach simplistic readers.
I found a lot of this book to be condescending, simple, boring and transparent. I am an avid reader and listener, and while I appreciate the authors efforts, I have never rolled my eyes more than I have at this book.
I would never recommend this book to anyone.
    Attention Getting!
Loved it! My ADHD mind stayed very attentive throughout the book! Waiting for second book
    Has its monents
Overall enjoyable but story was very predictable and language seemed out of place for some of the characters.
    Just say no.
What disappointed you about American Jackal: A Troy Stoker, M.D. Psychiatry Thriller?
Its hard to figure out where to begin to describe how bad this book was. The writing was very amateurish with many grammatical errors and inconsistencies. The character development was very poor and superficial. The characters world was a very simplistic, black and white one in which self-righteous, paranoid and yet hypocritical behavior is celebrated. And the plot was unbelievable.
As a physician I was very disturbed with much of the medical information presented. Much was inaccurate as to diagnostic reasoning, treatment and scientific facts.

    Interesting Story
Too âwordyâ throughout first third of book. Then moves to an incredible ending. Would recommend; well worth tolerating the beginning.
    Five Stars
    GREAT
    Another Scott Turow hit!!
This is a great book!! I had just finished his most recent book and felt like I wanted to read some more of his work. This was an excellent choice. If you enjoy Scott Turow's work you will enjoy this book!!
    Good!
I like Scott Turow, and was surprised with the main character Mack Malloy! I was also surprised with the ending. I think a reader will like how Mr. Turow makes the characters come alive; they are like people you know and work with.
Pleading to be read and enjoyed
This book has a terrific plot with many twists and turns. Scott Turow brings the characters to life with his wonderful writing style.

    Publisher's Summary:
In this enthralling and atmospheric thriller, one young family's dream of a better life is about to become a nightmare.
Ben and Caroline Tierney and their two young boys are hoping to start over. Ben has hit a dead end with his new novel, Caroline has lost her banking job, and eight-year-old Charlie is being bullied at his Manhattan school.
When Ben inherits land in the village of Swannhaven, in a remote corner of upstate New York, the Tierneys believe it's just the break they need, and they leave behind all they know to restore a sprawling estate. But as Ben uncovers Swannhaven's chilling secrets and Charlie ventures deeper into the surrounding forest, strange things begin to happen. The Tierneys realize that their new home isn't the fresh start they needed... and that the village's haunting saga is far from over.
House of Echoes is a novel that shows how sometimes the ties that bind us are the only things that can keep us whole.
    Critic Reviews:
"Brendan Duffy's House of Echoes is one of those wonderful stories that come along only once in a while, a beautifully nuanced and riveting family drama set within a terrifying landscape that has you turning pages long past bed time. But keep the light burning and read to the end. That's when you realize you've been in the hands of a very clever storyteller, and that what you thought you'd been reading was all along something else." (Carla Buckley, author of The Deepest Secret)

    Scary Horror, Remarkable Characters
What made the experience of listening to House of Echoes the most enjoyable?
The way the author skillfully ramped up the creepiness until the family was emeshed in it. I often have trouble suspending disbelief while reading horror novels, but this one became real to me almost immediately.
What was one of the most memorable moments of House of Echoes?
I have never seen a better, more intense portrayal of parental fear and devotion than this author gave me. When the mother ripped into the house with her bare hands to protect her child, it was frightening and touching.
What about Allyson Ryan and George Newbern s performance did you like?
Newbern literally becomes this tormented father. He was remarkable. Ryan was very competent, however, she came off as a more contemporary voice than matched the 18th century female character.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Did not expect to care about the family as much as I did. Conveyed the depth of parental love in a way that touched my heart.
    Any additional comments?
I read and listen to many, many horror titles. I have only been moved to write a few reviews. This was one of my best finds. Beautifully drawn characters and intelligent horror. I stumbled across this book am glad I did. I hope Brendan Duffy has a title in the works.
one of the best stories I've come across.
I absolutely loved this story, and the narration was great. If you're looking for a thriller that will keep you guessing and make you question the characters motives look no further.
    Slow start, but ends well
I sighed and rolled my eyes during the first part of this story and almost abandoned the book. I'm glad I didn't.

Hank and Josie own a small nursery in Mays Landing, New Jersey. They have three kids and a house with a mortgage. Josie has worked hard making and selling wreaths to make money for Christmas presents. Two days before Christmas, while she is collecting pine cones for her wreaths, she finds a woman named Helen lying in the woods behind her house. She is bruised and beaten, but won't let Josie call for help. Helen lets Josie take her inside her house where Helen meets Josie's husband, Hank, and their daughter, Mabel. Josie notices Helen's strange, old-fashioned clothes and wonders where she came from. While talking about her son, Billy, Helen suddenly disappears.
Was Helen a ghost? As Josie begins to investigate, she discovers that Helen was a real person. In fact, she was Josie's great-grandmother, a woman who abandoned her young son and her husband to become a chorus girl in Atlantic City. But is the family history regarding Helen true, or a story concocted by her husband to cover her murder?
When Josie receives a foreclosure notice and realizes they are about to lose their house, it's just the beginning of a bad Christmas Eve. When circumstances threaten to ruin their Christmas, Josie and Hank discover that the old abandoned house across the street may hold the key to the mystery surrounding Helen's appearance, and to finding the money they need to save their family's home.

    Nice Christmas mystery
I enjoyed this short Christmas mystery story, but it would have been better if it were a little bit longer and the characters developed more. Also, there is no mention of whether the stolen money was found or not!
The narrator, Sabrina Hawkins, was good.

Simon Templar heads to New York - to sip cocktails, listen to jazz, and have a good time. But he has a way of making enemies, and a quiet night in Cookie's Cellar sets him on a trail involving drugs, smuggling, dead bodies, a beautiful singer called Avalon Dexter, and finally the loathsome Cookie herself. The battle is on.
Leslie Charteris was born in Singapore and moved to England in 1919. He left Cambridge University early when his first novel was accepted for publication. He wrote novels about the Saint throughout his life, becoming one of the twentieth century`s most prolific and popular authors.
    Members Reviews:
    Another great adventure!
Leslie Charteris did it again; he topped himself with yet another great adventure, in which Simon Templar shines, along with his "halo."
    Saint Saga #26
This book, from 1947, is the last full-length Saint novel written entirely by Charteris (i.e. not ghost-written with his approval); and it features its hero still in his reformed wartime rle of rather eccentric G-man, on the trail of drug smugglers in New York.
Charteris's story-telling and character-drawing abilities, with the characteristic flashes of humour, never entirely desert him. But compared with the prewar books, this is dull stuff.
There is one point of especial interest, nonetheless. The Saint says to the heroine:
"[T]his thing goes too far over the world, into too many countries and too many jurisdictions. Only an organisation that's just as international can cope with it. There is such a thing, and I'm part of it. That's all I'm allowed to say."
But on the last page it's clearly identified as UNCLE, over a decade before this supposedly fictional organisation was supposedly created for the TV series.
P.S. For a list of and discussion of all Charteris's Saint books, see my So You'd Like To... Guide.
    Super Reader
"Simon Templar lighted another cigarette, took a sip of his latest and most anemic-looking highball, and reflected with considerable gloom that if the vanquishing of villains required any man like himself to endure certain unpleasantnesses and discomforts there must be a lot of more attractive and entertaining places to endure them in than a joint with a name like Cookie's Cellar, situated in a rejuvenated basement in the East Fifties of New York City, USA.
Such, for instance, as any reasonably busy boiler factory in any moderately insalubrious zone of reconversion."
"For those rather pleasantly piratical features had probably drifted in and out of more major forms of trouble than those of any other adventurer of this century. Newspaper reproductions of them had looked out from under headlines that would have been dismissed as a pulp writer's fantasy before the man whom they accoladed as the Robin Hood of modern crime arrived to make them real."
The Saint is in New York, and is not at all impressed with the booze in the night club scene. He is on the trail of a drug operation, and the likely suspects are a steatopygous piano player, a psychiatrist, a poet and a nancy boy artist.
He also has to decide if the gorgeous singer Avalon Dexter, who has been quite, quite nice to him, is on the level.

    Publisher's Summary:
Amidst a murky underworld of flesh-trafficking, prostitution, and institutionalized corruption, elite soldier Jez Kornfeld is thrown into a world where nothing is what it seems, nobody can be trusted, and everything can be violently torn from him.
Ordered to disperse and arrest a crowd of Jewish demonstrators in Red Square, Jez is dismayed to find his sisters in their ranks. He sneaks them from under the noses of the secret police, but in doing so he has put his own security at risk; he has to get them out of the USSR. They cross into the Ukraine to a port on the Black Sea and he bribes passage for them from Soviet soil. Jez is happy in the knowledge that his sisters are safe, but he is unaware that his every move has been observed and that he has set in motion a chain of events that will plunge his life into a headlong battle to stay alive.
    Members Reviews:
action, treason, corruption, friendship, and love
Just after WWII, Jez Kornfeld, a young Jew whose maximum aspiration in life is joining the army, is wrongly led to the KGB headquarters when asking for the Red Army. He makes a good impression there and has a successful career. But in helping his family he will lose part of the privileges he had, and soon he will be involved in a case of prostitution and corruption, in which his own life will be in danger.
It took me a while to get into the story, but once I did I was hooked. This is an action packed thriller with interesting characters and an amazing plot, always moving forward, and with several twists and turns. This was not my typical book and I was afraid that I could have troubles to enjoy it, but I absolutely loved it.
We fist meet a fifteen year old Jez, still so young and full of illusions. His main goal in life is joining the army. The novel covers around twenty years, and in that time we witness a profound evolution in Jez. From that naive boy who joined the army, Jez became a real assassin, killing more easily each time. There will be a point which seems of no return for him, and he will have to challenge his wishes and beliefs.
There is a nemesis in this book, an evil character which will try to end Jez. He has his weak points too, he is human; but I really enjoyed how wicked he was, while still keeping it real.
And there is love too in this book. Yes, this book has it all! As you know, I am not keen on romance per say, but when it is so seamlessly intertwined with a story, and although important, it is kept on a second plane, I think it can give an extra layer of depth to the story. Here it helps to complete Jez's picture and makes the story more polished.
Dennis Kleinman's style perfectly suited the book. His voice and performance made me feel I was a witness to the story. He trapped me into it and I could not let it go. His interpretations were also spot on but I missed some more variety of voices. Sadly all characters sounded the same except for women. This is the only drawback for me, since all the other aspects of the narration were superb and the audio production was perfect.
As I have previously said, this book has it all: action, treason, corruption, friendship, and love. It is very well written and will delight everyone, even those who are not into military thrillers. I am looking forward to books two and three.

    Great pick!
The story was really good, but I must say the narrator made all the difference. You always knew which character was speaking, especially Snider. Will be looking for that author/narrator combo in future book picks.
    Wonderfully read.
Not only did I enjoy the story, I enjoyed and appreciated the reader's wonderful and clear personification of the different characters.
    Very violent story
I couldn't finish this book. The description of the killings are so violent that I will have nightmares.
It was basically unbearable for me listening to this book - although I usually very much like a good "Krimi".
This book might have a good story and might be interesting but I will never know.
I will return this book to audible and hopefully find something that does not make me sick to my stomach.
    Brilliant but ...
... tired of detectives who face serial killers without backup. High time for a new tool to create suspense.
Loved the characters, particularly the strong females.
I'll listen to more from this author.
