1 And it came to pass, when Jesus went into the house of one of the chief of the Pharisees, on the sabbath day, to eat bread, that they watched him.

 6 And they could not answer him to these things.
Et non poterant ad haec respondere illi.

 7 And he spoke a parable also to them that were invited, marking how they chose the first seats at the table, saying to them:
Dicebat autem et ad invitatos parabolam, intendens quomodo primos accubitus eligerent, dicens ad illos :

 8 When thou art invited to a wedding, sit not down in the first place, lest perhaps one more honourable than thou be invited by him:
Cum invitatus fueris ad nuptias, non discumbas in primo loco, ne forte honoratior te sit invitatus ab illo.

 9 And he that invited thee and him, come and say to thee, Give this man place: and then thou begin with shame to take the lowest place.
Et veniens is, qui te et illum vocavit, dicat tibi : Da huic locum : et tunc incipias cum rubore novissimum locum tenere.

 10 But when thou art invited, go, sit down in the lowest place; that when he who invited thee, cometh, he may say to thee: Friend, go up higher. Then shalt thou have glory before them that sit at table with thee.
Sed cum vocatus fueris, vade, recumbe in novissimo loco : ut, cum venerit qui te invitavit, dicat tibi : Amice, ascende superius. Tunc erit tibi gloria coram simul discumbentibus :

 11 Because every one that exalteth himself, shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.
quia omnis, qui se exaltat, humiliabitur : et qui se humiliat, exaltabitur.

Jesus healed heale the man with dropsy. He tells them a parable showing that God exalts whosoever humbles himself.

26 And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, called Nazareth,

 27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

[16] "The husband of Mary": The Evangelist gives us rather the pedigree of St. Joseph, than that of the blessed Virgin, to conform to the custom of the Hebrews, who in their genealogies took no notice of women; but as they were near akin, the pedigree of the one sheweth that of the other.

Our Lord Jesus Christ has saved us from eternal death, as He once saved the young man of Naim from natural death and doing this He shows the compassion which He feels for our mother the Catholic Church, lamenting over sinners, just as He was moved to pity for the poor widow grieving for her son.

This the story of the resurrection of the young man of Naim and it shows our Lord's power over death.

 14 For even as a man going into a far country, called his servants, and delivered to them his goods;

 15 And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to every one according to his proper ability: and immediately he took his journey.
Et uni dedit quinque talenta, alii autem duo, alii vero unum, unicuique secundum propriam virtutem : et profectus est statim.

 16 And he that had received the five talents, went his way, and traded with the same, and gained other five.

 24 No man can serve two masters. For either he will hate the one, and love the other: or he will sustain the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
Nemo potest duobus dominis servire : aut enim unum odio habebit, et alterum diliget : aut unum sustinebit, et alterum contemnet. Non potestis Deo servire et mammonae.

 25 Therefore I say to you, be not solicitous for your life, what you shall eat, nor for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more than the meat: and the body more than the raiment?
Ideo dico vobis, ne solliciti sitis animae vestrae quid manducetis, neque corpori vestro quid induamini. Nonne anima plus est quam esca, et corpus plus quam vestimentum?

 26 Behold the birds of the air, for they neither sow, nor do they reap, nor gather into barns: and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not you of much more value than they?
Respicite volatilia caeli, quoniam non serunt, neque metunt, neque congregant in horrea : et Pater vester caelestis pascit illa. Nonne vos magis pluris estis illis?

 27 And which of you by taking thought, can add to his stature by one cubit?
Quis autem vestrum cogitans potest adjicere ad staturam suam cubitum unum?

 28 And for raiment why are you solicitous? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they labour not, neither do they spin.
Et de vestimento quid solliciti estis? Considerate lilia agri quomodo crescunt : non laborant, neque nent.

 29 But I say to you, that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these.

 30 And if the grass of the field, which is today, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, God doth so clothe: how much more you, O ye of little faith?

 31 Be not solicitous therefore, saying, What shall we eat: or what shall we drink, or wherewith shall we be clothed?

 32 For after all these things do the heathens seek. For your Father knoweth that you have need of all these things.

 33 Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you.
