In this episode, Tammy speaks to Mike Wigglesworth about the importance of tailoring when delivering courses. Delivering tailored training is one of the core steps of the Training 4 Influence methodology. We want to ensure that every course that is delivered is tailored to the sector, organisation and customer group, so that the subject matter is clear, it adheres to legislation, and is written to exceed industry quality standards.
While learning about our methodology Mike found a particular affinity with the tailored step, so we knew he was perfectly placed for today’s discussion. In this episode they discuss: the value a tailored course brings to both the organisations you are delivering to and the delegates within the room, how Mike’s previous experience as a solicitor helped him realise the importance of tailoring courses, and the things you need to think about to ensure that the course you’re delivering provides the most impact to the specific needs of the delegates attending.
Mike is a recently retired solicitor of over thirty years, with almost 27 of those years spent working in the CPS. During that time, he prosecuted cases in both the Magistrates and Crown Courts and reviewed files across the criminal offences spectrum, including sexual abuse and murder. He was the national CPS policy lead on vulnerable and intimidated witnesses, as well as on the intermediary scheme. He also managed a team of lawyers covering advocacy in the Crown Court and the review of serious sexual offences.
Throughout his time at the CPS, he delivered training on child abuse prosecutions, dealing with vulnerable and intimidated witnesses in the criminal justice system and a number of other topics.
Training 4 Influence is a methodology – or blueprint – for delivering training in a way that maximises the opportunity for learning. It comprises of four steps that make the methodology what it is: expert, tailored, engaging and values-led.
Through delivering with these steps we aim to maximise opportunities for learning using a person and service-centred approach; add real value to the organisation and individual delegates, to provide a tangible return on investment and help to re-motivate and refresh delegates.
Training 4 Influence helps us all, facilitators, delegates, service users and organisations be the best we can be.
