When a natural disaster happens, grief is not experienced by one person alone. It touches families, communities, an entire country… and even those who are far away, yet deeply connected to their people.
In this episode, I reflect on collective grief in the face of a tragedy like the one Venezuela has experienced. I speak not only from my work as a grief specialist, but also from my personal experience of living through the devastating earthquake in Managua, Nicaragua, in 1972.
When life changes in a matter of seconds, shock, sadness, fear, helplessness, guilt, and uncertainty may all appear. And for those who are far from home, the pain can feel even more complex.
My hope with this message is to accompany you in recognizing what you are feeling, caring for your heart, allowing others to support you, and remembering that you do not have to carry such deep pain alone.
One moment at a time. One step at a time.
