In our final Spiritual Development episode of the season, we talk with Brian Delamont about how we can honor God with the condition and content of our hearts. As we intentionally build our lives on the firm foundation of the Gospel, the Holy Spirit sanctifies us and gives us supernatural peace.

    • Proverbs 4:20-27
    • "It's my responsibility to guard what's in my heart and how it gets there."
    • 2 Corinthians 1:21-22
    • "The way you and I can stand firm in Christ is by His Spirit, who lives in our hearts. The Spirit is the deposit, the promise of what's to come when we're fully sanctified in God's presence."
    • Philippians 4:6-8
    • Luke 6:46-49
    • Psalm 19:14
    • "God is the One who has purchased us so that we receive His righteousness. He has all the resources necessary to help my heart be the kind of heart He wants it to be. He's also the rock, the foundation [...] He provides the foundation that my heart needs in order to stand firm when things shake."

    • "If we all remain in the west, who is actually going to take charge? Who is going to lead, who is going to impact, who is going to show them a better way of doing things?"
    • "We want them to be able to sit and read and let the Holy Spirit speak to them through the Word of God."
    • "I don't do the transformation, but God uses people. God wants us to be available."

  • 110: Cultivating a Holy Curiosity (with Andrea Craddock)

How can we foster curiosity in learners of all ages? Andrea Craddock of TeachBeyond School Services introduces us to the topic of holy curiosity and how we can integrate this into our classrooms and conversations.

    • "The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when one contemplates the mysteries of eternity... Never lose a holy curiosity." - Albert Einstein
    • "Cultivating a Holy Curiosity through Social Studies" Article
    • "Looking to the world around us, words are used like 'madness' and 'folly.' We see that if we can satisfy our curiosity through God's Word, we eventually end up in this place of transformation."
    • "We don't want to teach students what to think; we want to teach them how to think."
    • "It's a lot easier to create opportunities for the younger ones because they are so curious about life, whereas the older ones, for them it's really more about helping them find what they're curious about."
    • "When a student asks a question in the classroom, you don't just immediately give the answer."
    • "We want them to take what it is that they are learning in the classroom and be able to apply that to life."
    • "There's a lot of good that comes out of curiosity, and that's how we were made, so we want to be supporting that and fostering that."

  • 108: Trust and Obey (with Brian Delamont)

How can we follow Jesus out of joyful obedience rather than dutiful obligation? Brian Delamont, Executive Vice President of TeachBeyond, returns to the podcast to unpack how we can follow Jesus out of joyful obedience, rather than dutiful obligation. As our hearts are aligned to His and our mindset is transformed, we can live in victory and love.

    • "Obedience always involves two aspects: what is being obeyed or followed, and the person carrying out the action of response."
    • "Obedience, like everything else God has given us to understand who He is and to understand how he loves us, has been twisted and broken by the fall. God initially set this in place out of love, knowing this was for our very best, that we would follow His lead, that we would follow His instructions."
    • 1 Samuel 15:19-22
    • "He requires more than external compliance. He's not about the sacrifice; He's about our heart's devotion to Him."
    • "Trust and obedience [...] are deeply connected to walking with Jesus. In order to walk with Him, I have to trust where He is going and to follow Him there."
    • "Obedience means that we listen to what Jesus has to say, and then we do what He tells us to do."
    • John 14:12-18
    • Matthew 21:28-32
    • "Don't just say the right thing; do the right thing. If you love Me, you will keep My commands."
    • "He's just longing for us to do the things that He knows will lead to life, not death."
    • A Long Obedience in the Same Direction by Eugene Peterson
    • James 1:22-25
    • "How can obedience lead us to victory rather than duty?"
    • 2 Corinthians 10:4-6
    • "Obedience doesn't begin with the externals [...] obedience begins with our minds being transformed."
    • Matthew 15:18-20
    • "Love for [Jesus] is what motivates our obedience."
