Today, we are talking to Lindsay Poelman (coach) and Kathy Kinghorn (therapist) about the importance of being trauma-informed. If our goal is to help our clients get where they want to go and for us to "do no harm" in helping them get there, then we really need to understand trauma. We need to know what it looks like, how it can present, how to let people have their stories, how to help them work through it, and when to pull in or suggest additional support.
In this episode, we get into:
"I like to validate the hell out of their experience - as much as they need to get to the deepest, safest, most loving, acceptable and compassionate place possible. Then, let them lead themselves where they want to go."
"And, change work, healing work, business growth... they're not about speed. If you're trying to rush, you're gonna miss the good stuff. So, thank you both for slowing it down."
Lindsay and Kathy are training coaches to become trauma-informed, especially in regard to relationships. They want coaches to understand how prevalent trauma is and how much they can do to support their clients in the midst of it - because it will come up.
