True Crime Guys

The neighborhood of New Brighton in Ramsey County Minnesota is a safe and quiet one…usually. Except for the evening of May 5th 2014 when gunshots rang out on Knollwood Drive. What had begun as a minor disagreement over feeding deer, would ultimately end with murder!

Heaven's Gate was an American UFO religious cult based out of San Diego, California, founded in 1974 and led by Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles.  On March 26, 1997, police discovered the bodies of 39 members of the group, who had participated in a mass suicide in order to reach what they believed was an extraterrestrial spacecraft following the Hale–Bopp comet. Just before the suicide, the group's website was updated with the message: "Hale-Bopp brings closure to Heaven's Gate ... Our 22 years of classroom here on planet Earth is finally coming to conclusion – 'graduation' from the Human Evolutionary Level."

The texts started after the arrest. Students texting their friends and parents, who then formed group chats with other parents. The details were fuzzy, but what they knew was Winston Nguyen, a math teacher at Saint Ann’s School, where parents pay up to $60,000 a year for tuition, had been arrested in front of students. Nguyen, 37, was charged with 11 felony counts, of posing as a teen and fellow student on Snapchat, where he allegedly asked children to send him nude, sexual images. Had this been Nguyen’s first felony, the reaction from parents might have been more shock than blind outrage. But, Nguyen had a long history of deception, he’d conned roommates, friends, and even his own family! So how did the school that claims to be “unabashedly committed to excellence,” welcome a con man into the classroom?

Remember Ellen Greenburg? The teacher who was stabbed 20 times in her apartment and her death was ruled a suicide? Yea, well they're thinking about changing that, shocker. Also we talk Disney+ terms and conditions. We're sure you've read them....you have read them right? Because Disney is trying to dodge a wrongful death suit because the victim signed up for Disney+! And last but not least we wrap it up with some good ol' medical malpractice. An Atlanta hospital is being sued after losing a piece of man's skull, and a pretty good size piece too, as far as brain flaps are concerned.

Thirty-one-year-old Melanie Uribe was on her way to work, when two men kidnapped her by forcing their way into her truck at a stoplight. By the next morning the police had found her truck, burned out, on a side street. The story of Melanie Uribe, and her murder, is mostly overshadowed by the alleged psychic vision(by Etta Smith) that led police to her body.  Most of what you’ll find on this case is about Etta Smith, many folks believe she was crucial in solving this murder, we don't.

Heidi Marie Allen was 18-years-old when she disappeared from her job at the D & W Convenience Store in New Haven, New York. Her last transaction was recorded on the cash register at 7:42 a.m. At approximately 8:15 a.m. a civilian flagged down an officer and reported that the store was unattended. Heidi’s jacket, purse and car keys were found left there, along with her maroon colored station wagon. Her body was never found, and the suspects don't make sense. Was this a small town cover up or gross incompetence?

Tucker Hipps was pledging the Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Clemson University when on a morning run across the Highway 93 Bridge on September 22, 2014, Tucker fell from the bridge hitting his head on rocks killing him instantly. Was this a freak accident, foul play, or just a little hazing that was taken too far...

Bike Batman was just an average guy in Seattle who liked to ride bicycles. There was nothing about him that made you think he would be a vigilante who would face off against criminals armed with a smartphone, and the cops on speed dial. But you know, sometimes, the purpose just finds you. The guy showed no crime-fighting predilection, whatsoever—but sometimes…it's a calling, ya know? Some people were born to wear the cape.
