True Hauntings

This place was designed to house only 29 prisoners at a time, from poor debtors to execution victims.

Between 1730 – 1832 in excess of 222 crimes carried the death penalty - 56 prisoners met their end at Derby Gaol where their hangings were spectacles witnessed by crowds of people waiting in eager anticipation.

Terror, torture and death, you could be murdered for the coat off your back!

This prison sits under a normal housing estate. I wonder if the neighbours have any stories to tell?

A branding? Transportation or hanging?

Sane or insane, men or women all found themselves lumped together until their day in court was had….if they could only find a way of surviving that long.

In 1633 the convent of the Ursuline NUNS in Loudun, France, became the scene of an outbreak of pure evil.

Some even called it a diabolical possession.

Described as “The Closest Thing to Hell,” on a sign made by an inmate incarcerated for stealing chickens, the Licking County Jail ceased operations in 1987 after 98 years of operation.

Experienced investigators and guests have captured full blown apparitions, recorded ghastly EVPs that chill to the bone, encountered disembodied voices, chanting and the slamming of jail cell doors.

 This place has had some very sensational, and memorable inmates, including Laura Devlin, who was given another name after her dastardly crime, so it’s highly likely that many of them will still be calling this place home.

This week we head to the GOLDEN FLEECE INN in YORK UK.

This pub is like a beacon to ghost hunters who pass by it.

It has all of the hallmarks of a haunted site with its doors being open and serving Ale since the 1500's.

Wonky floors, tipping tables, squashy seating and an air of mystery makes a visit to this place something that you must do when you visit York.

Plus… literally across the road, is the start of the Shambles, a street that looks like it is locked in time having refused to change since the 16th Century.

We totally love this place and have yet to have the opportunity to investigate.

Deep under the stone walls of the 13th century Buda Castle, lies an ancient Labyrinth.

Constructed during the 11th Century, Dudley Castle is known as one of the most haunted Castles in the UK, producing some of the most chilling paranormal activity ever captured on camera.

The Castle is a site that actively participates in holding regular, public ghost hunts and people have spoken of their personal experiences of being touched and pushed, while staff and visitors have had stones thrown at them on several occasions.

Some people get so spooked, that they leave in the middle of the night and don’t return.

With over a thousand years of history Dudley Castle is a perfect spot for ghostly goings on.

Who are the ghosts that call Dudley Castle home?

We know of a few who have been witnessed by many of the centuries, and most recently there has been a very interesting photographic capture of the figure of a woman in grey coming out of a door way – what is her significance to the castle?

Best of all, we are going to get to spend time in this Castle this May when we return to investigate more ghostly sites in both Ireland and England.

Although insane asylums were built with the intention of protecting, treating, and supporting people suffering from mental illness, in the late 1800’s terrible practices were used on the patients housed in such institutions, that, by today’s standards would be looked upon as simply barbaric.

Many asylums used treatment practices such as restraints and chains, ice baths, electroshock therapy, and forced drugging to name a few.

The Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum was specifically designed to change this, using what was called Moral Management which relied on kindness and compassion and making the patients environments comfortable and more homely.

This was great, in theory, but not in practice as this asylum became overcrowded and understaffed creating a place of fear, neglect and the inability to give those within its walls the simplest of decent care.

The Trans Allegheny Asylum is still one of the most haunted building in the USA.

No wonder really – how could anyone survive such conditions.

Even the sanest of individuals would eventually lose their mind there.

Who are the souls that remain?

What is it that they want or are they just simply lost.
