Truly Criminal

February, 1977. Star Stowe was the centrefold of one of the world’s most popular magazines: Playboy.

She was not only now a world-famous model, but in a relationship with one of the most famous musicians on the planet. After years of trying to find success, it seemed that everything has fallen into place for her. Just 20 years later, her life would be brutally cut short. A suspected serial was prowling the streets, someone who, to this day, has not been caught.

This episode was researched and written by Stephen J. Golds:

Shipman, Virginia. August, 2013. When 17-year-old Alexis Murphy went shopping in a nearby town, it was just your typical Saturday.

She was always online, come rain or shine, so when she failed to make her 11pm curfew, and hadn’t posted in a few hours, something instantly felt wrong. Alexis was missing. And her case would spark a huge investigation, one that would only reach its conclusion 7 years later.

For many, New Year's Eve is a chance to say goodbye to the previous year and ring in the upcoming one with those nearest and dearest; for 21-year-old Rachel Moran, this was no different. She set off back to her flat, which was less than a mile away, and told her mother she would call as soon as she got in. But as the hours ticked by, that call never came. Before long, it became the biggest search operation ever undertaken by Humberside Police as everyone was left wondering - what had happened to Rachel Moran?

Grapevine is the Christmas capital of Texas.

Every year, people go all out for the holiday period with something for everyone. On Christmas morning 2011, all was quiet and peaceful; that was until 11:34 AM. Police received a 911 call from a house, and what they found that morning was one of the worst crimes the police department had ever seen.

In January 2022, news about the murder of a young teacher in Tullamore, Ireland, would start to ripple through the media. It was soon a case on everyones minds, both in Ireland and much further afield. Every case is horrific, but certain cases leave a lasting and profound impact in huge ways... in ways we have not experienced before. And in the words of the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, the case of 23 year old Ashling Murphy has “united the nation in solidarity and revulsion”.
