Rob Palmer has been a part of the lawn care industry for over a decade, launching his own Ohio-based lawn care company, WeedPro, back in 2001. His long-term success caught the attention of Authority Brands, a leading portfolio company that specializes in home services, which acquired the company in 2023. Through that acquisition, WeedPro rebranded and began franchising as Lawn Squad, which offers comprehensive lawn care services, from fertilization and weed control to aeration, seeding, and insect control, serving both residential and commercial properties.   

Rob shares how he successfully transitioned into teaching turf care, which surprisingly turned out to be easier than expected. He developed a rigorous 12-week training program led by PhD Ryan Waltz, the director of training. He describes how Lawn Squad maximizes productivity by completing 12 months of work in just nine and a half months through smart strategies. The speaker highlights the advantage of franchising in different climates, allowing year-round operations. Initially expanding from Cleveland to Columbus and Cincinnati extended their work season by a few weeks, but with franchises now in southern states like Georgia and Texas, they’ve achieved continuous, 12-month business operations.

He  emphasizes the importance of building net worth through their company, Lawn Squad, and now helps franchisees see beyond annual income to understand the broader impact on their financial future and overall wealth. He also discusses the success of a franchise model in its first year, highlighting that nearly 75% of franchise owners are semi-absentee, managing their business while holding full-time jobs.
