Mark Janasik is the Co-Founder of Southern Grounds & Co, an award-winning coffeehouse that reimagines vibrant, healthy communities. He discusses Southern Grounds’ journey into franchising, starting with their 3 corporate locations and plans to add 4 more within a year. The franchising idea took off when HMS Host, a global powerhouse, discovered Southern Grounds and wanted them in Jacksonville International Airport, impressed by their unique coffee experience.
Each Southern Grounds location personalizes 20% of its menu, allowing franchisees to choose from proven 'Chef Selections' based on local demand. With analytics and a flexible selection of 20-30 additional menu items, the brand ensures profitability by optimizing menu mix and food costs. Mark talks about how Southern Grounds collaborates with preservation architects and designers to honor the history and character of buildings and communities, often using renovations to spark revitalization across neighborhoods. Their approach makes each coffeehouse a cornerstone of local redevelopment.
Mark is seeking franchisees with passion for community, coffee & culinary excellence. He looks for entrepreneurial candidates who appreciate hospitality, sustainable cooking, and seasonal flavors. Ideal franchisees are financially qualified, community-focused, and driven to make a positive impact.

Josh Minturn serves as the VP of Franchise Development for Outdoor & Emerging Brands, a group of 7 franchised business models at Authority Brands and Larry Amos is the President at DoodyCalls.
Josh advises potential franchisees to first take personal inventory and understand their own "why" before exploring franchise opportunities. He emphasizes the overwhelming number of options and encourages thoughtful self-reflection. He discusses the process of guiding potential candidates in their decision-making journey, without pressuring them to choose a specific brand. The goal is to provide them with enough information to make a well-informed decision about their future.
Larry discusses the diverse backgrounds of successful franchisees within DoodyCalls. He mentions that the franchise attracts people from all walks of life. He emphasizes that the brand does not discriminate and welcomes individuals from various professions, making it accessible to anyone interested in joining. For potential candidates, he focuses on transparency and introducing the culture at DoodyCalls and Authority Brands. A key part of their interview process involves asking candidates if they've validated the business by speaking with franchisees. Given how busy franchisees Larry offers to direct candidates to specific owners who can address concerns or questions, such as what's keeping them up at night, to help candidates better understand the business.

Renowned for creating award-winning restaurant concepts, Chris Tripoli has lent his expertise to projects across the US and internationally. He teaches courses on restaurant operations for the Small Business Development Centers and is a Food Service Consultants Society International member. As a regular speaker at industry conferences and contributor to RestaurantOwner.com since 1998, Chris also hosts the podcast “Corner Booth.”
Chris discusses how some successful big brands become complacent, failing to continually question and improve. This acceptance of mediocrity is dangerous for long-term success. The speaker emphasizes the importance of avoiding mediocrity, as brands that lose focus on customer needs and fail to innovate often face leadership changes or get acquired, ultimately prioritizing profits over guest satisfaction.
He also emphasizes three key points for franchise success, as well as discussing various strategies for structuring an exit as an independent restaurant owner. Beyond selling to a group looking to franchise, other options include selling to someone interested in growing the concept further. Additionally, "inside deals" are becoming popular, where owners sell to key employees or investors already involved in the business.

Doug Smith, Senior Vice President of Franchise Development at BELFOR Franchise Group, and D’Wayne Tanner, Vice President of Franchise Development within BELFOR Franchise Group talk about how franchising has become a mainstream, accepted path to business ownership. They highlight franchising as a safer route to entrepreneurship, where franchisors have already made and learned from mistakes, providing a structured framework for new business owners. They participate in a "one-minute brand dash," where they briefly highlight 11 different brands in a rapid-fire speed round.
Doug and D’Wayne discuss how the top-performing franchisees in this home service company share a strong focus on customer service. They are comfortable working with people, especially in customers' homes, which are considered personal sanctuaries. While prior sales or marketing experience isn't necessary, being at ease in conversations and interacting with clients is a key trait they look for in candidates. They add that younger people, in their twenties and thirties, are increasingly jumping into entrepreneurship and franchise ownership, breaking the stereotype that it's only for older individuals.

Julie Cartwright, President of Pvolve, shares her experience meeting Rachel Katzman, a founder with an incredible idea they couldn't refuse. Katzman introduced a method that combines functional movement and resistance-based training, aimed at improving well-being while sculpting a "killer body." The concept was so compelling that she decided to partner with Katzman to launch a company. Initially, the business had a strong digital focus, featuring patented resistance equipment and a functional movement-based method as its core.
Pvolve is a fitness approach that focuses on a "women-first lens" due to women's unique hormonal fluctuations and varying needs throughout different stages of life. However, the program is not exclusively for women; it can also benefit men, especially in areas like flexibility, which could improve activities such as golf.
Julie explains that Pvolve benefits from strong national marketing and a direct-to-consumer (DTC) model. This approach allows them to build a consumer base before opening new physical locations. She discusses the marketing support provided to franchisees, particularly in the P-Volv franchise. Franchisees receive assistance from a marketing specialist who helps guide them through the process. Each franchisee commits to both local and digital marketing efforts, with strategies tailored to the specific demographics of their area.

Carl J Cox is the Host of The Measure Success Podcast, $4 Million Strategies, author of Lost at CEO, and the Founder and CEO of 40 Strategy.
Carl discusses his experience working with seven diverse companies, each achieving growth from 2X to 7X, despite being very different organizations. He emphasizes that every business has fundamental principles and that success involves understanding what isn't working within your business, people, processes, and systems. Carl notes that many organizations recognize issues but are unwilling to act on them.
He talks about how to better support employees, emphasizing that understanding their needs and being present for them is more important than offering more money. He mentions that money is rarely a top reason employees leave; instead, employees often leave due to issues with a specific person, such as a supervisor or boss.
Carl emphasizes the importance of breaking down large objectives into smaller, manageable tasks that can be completed weekly over a ten-week period, known as a "sprint."

John Hewitt, Founder of Loyalty Brands, advises finding an industry you love, working hard, and persevering. Using their pet grooming business as an example, where all the owners are passionate about pets, they emphasize that life is too short to dread your work. Instead, you should look forward to Mondays and be proud of what you do. John reflects on the idea that the only two guarantees in life are death and taxes, making them a reliable business. However, a third certainty is mentioned: change.
Loyalty Brands is a synergistic group of franchise businesses and services designed to dovetail together to help the franchise buyer to prosper both quickly and over the long term. Each of the Loyalty franchise concepts are easily knitted together to provide interested prospects a portfolio of businesses that are exciting for them to consider. The brands under the Loyalty umbrella include ATAX Tax Service, Zoomin Groomin, Loyalty Business Brokers, CR3 Exterior Remodeling, Little Medical School, The Inspection Boys, and Ledgers Accounting and Business Services.
John advises that even if someone has no experience in a specific field like plumbing, HVAC, or cutting hair, they should still consider it if the business model resonates with them. He highlights his experience in the tax industry, where many newcomers had no prior knowledge of taxes. He explains the benefits of the industry, such as its seasonal nature, recession-proof status, and the challenge of dealing with the IRS. John encourages anyone interested in an unfamiliar industry to spend time in the field to see if they enjoy it before fully committing.
