Two Cops One Donut

Ever dreamt of becoming a superhero as a child? Well, our guest in this episode, rookie cop Josiah "Chef" Liszewski, did too, and he's now living that dream! From chasing bad guys in high-speed pursuits to navigating the unique challenges of proactive policing, Chef shares about his exhilarating journey from a sheltered upbringing to becoming a law enforcement officer. His passion and dedication for his work offers an intimate look into the complexities of the law enforcement field.

We then switch gears, reminiscing about our job experiences before turning 35. Including the seemingly glamorous stint working on a yacht in California, it turns out, wasn't all sunshine and rainbows but filled with bouts of unexpected seasickness. We also explore an innovative tool for law enforcement - the Insight LPR, a license plate reader designed to aid agencies, communities, and businesses. Our discussion then circles back to the world of policing, shedding light on topics such as the civil service test, the hiring process, and the dynamic shift from reactive to proactive policing.

In the latter part of the episode, we address the challenges faced by officers when working in a bustling bar area and the stigma attached to proactive policing. We also tackle the team dynamics within the police force, especially between patrol and specialized police teams. As we wrap up, we put emphasis on the critical influence trainers have on rookies and the justified use of force in policing. We conclude with a gripping recount of a wild shootout, proving that the life of a police officer is anything but ordinary. Join us for an episode packed with insights, experiences, and a whole lot of action!

Previously LIVE recording: Ever wonder what really goes on behind the badge? Pull up a chair and lend an ear, as we dig deep into the world of law enforcement through the eyes of experienced veterans. Our panel of high-caliber professionals, Danny King, Banning Sweatland, Randy Snyder, and Tom Smith, with decades of experience in various roles like patrol, SWAT, canine, and investigations, peel back the curtain on what it truly means to walk the thin blue line.

From analyzing raw and unfiltered police body cam videos to discussing the realities of police shootings, our conversation gets real, fast. We navigate the murky waters of high-stress situations, the trials of tactical training, and the misconceptions around aiming. We don't stop there, as we also venture into the aftermath of officer-involved shootings, discussing the emotional roller-coaster and procedural dance that follows. With an honest and open conversation, we shed light on the need for quick thinking, proper training, and a resilient mindset, giving you an authentic insight into the everyday challenges our officers face.

But the badge is more than just a job; it's a lifestyle that affects not just the officers but their families as well. As we wrap up, we explore the less spoken about mental health struggles within the law enforcement community, emphasizing the need for addressing PTSD and the importance of support systems. We take a moment to appreciate the often-unsung heroes who serve and protect, discussing the importance of family involvement, and the role of the National Law Enforcement Officer Hall of Fame. Step into the world of law enforcement and gain a deeper, more nuanced understanding of what it truly means to serve and protect. Join us for this enlightening discussion with our all-star panel and prepare to see the world from the other side of the badge.

This was a live recording, not the normal podcast.  You may have to watch from our YouTube to get the full value out of this episode. Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in law enforcement? Join us for an exciting adventure through the realities of policing with our revered guests, Suresh Madhavan from 221b Tactical and Deputy Banning Sweatland from Texas. As we navigate through the current global state, we get real with how it impacts law enforcement, sprinkling in personal experiences, tactical gear discussions, and a dash of whiskey appreciation. Suresh, a decorated officer, shares his journey from the force to making tactical gear, while Deputy Sweatland talks about how one such product, the Right-A-Dry Vest, changed the game for him.

We don't stop there. We are embarking on a journey of the mind as we dissect high-stress situations that officers face daily. From analyzing body cam footage of a heated shooting situation to a seemingly simple traffic stop that turns violent, we shed light on the tactical decisions and rapid responses required in these encounters. And, let's not forget the McDonald's incident where officers had to deal with a group of defiant kids. Through these discussions, we hope to impart a deeper understanding of the tactical, strategic, and, dare we say, 'human' side of law enforcement.

To lighten the mood, we welcome first-time guest Eric into our podcasting fold. We exchange stories, engage in friendly banter, and discuss the future of our podcast. This episode is not just about the trials and tribulations of law enforcement but also about bridging the gap of understanding and communication. So, join us as we tread through the realities of policing, one body cam footage at a time. Whether you're a part of the force or a curious civilian, this episode promises to offer valuable insights and a few laughs along the way.

Picture yourself navigating the dynamic realm of law enforcement, not just within a single country, but across two distinct nations. In this enlightening discussion, we're joined by Amanda Coleman, the visionary behind Irish Angel, who takes us on a remarkable journey. Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Amanda delves into the crucial realm of police mental health, shedding light on PTSD, and the contrasting challenges faced by law enforcement in both the United States and her homeland.

Drawing from her personal experiences, Amanda unveils the mission of Irish Angel—to establish a secure platform where first responders can exchange stories, forge connections, and access vital mental health resources.

Rarely do we have the opportunity to dissect the profound disparities between policing systems in the United States and Ireland, and even rarer still is the chance to do so with someone as insightful as Amanda. Together, we embark on a thorough exploration of training methodologies, rules of engagement, and structural distinctions between these two nations.

Amanda also guides us through the intricate landscape of rising crime rates in Ireland and its impact on the mental well-being of law enforcement personnel. The conversation takes a solemn turn as we address a frequently overlooked facet of law enforcement—the reactive crime centers, their dispatchers, and the emotional burdens they bear while grappling with guilt.

As we conclude our conversation with Amanda, we venture into the more somber aspects of first responder organizations, uncovering concerns related to corruption and competitiveness within group sessions. Amanda underscores the importance of involving professionals from outside the first responder community in these discussions. Additionally, we delve into the pivotal transition into retirement for law enforcement officers, emphasizing the significance of maintaining mental health post-retirement, and the indispensable role played by Irish Angel in this process.

Join us for this captivating dialogue with Amanda Coleman, as we navigate the intricate world of law enforcement, mental health, and the remarkable efforts of Irish Angel.
