Two Cops One Donut

In this episode, I speak with Deputy Brandon Griffith from Griffith Blue Heart Nonprofit. Brandon is a Pinal County police officer that suffered from an extremely rare heart issue, causing him to die for about 16 minutes. He was saved through the work of his wife (nurse), EMS, and FD. Brandon tells his story and talks about the importance of having an AED (automated external defibrillator)  for first responders. It is vital to life saving for our communities and our fellow first responders. Brandon's close call moved him to start a non-profit in the name of this message called Griffith Blue Heart and you can find it at https://griffithblueheart.com Take a listen, I promise it will captivate you. I hope you enjoy.

In this episode I speak with two prior Florida police officers and a former Navy SEAL. The Florida cops are Logan and Cathi Long. Logan was involved in a shooting and went through a slew of mental health issues that he felt his department failed him on. Together, his wife Cathi and him helped become a part of Mental Health For Heroes. You will hear them talk about their journey along with the assistance of Navy SEAL Kory Knowles.

Our first in-studio live episode I speak with(Air Force Veteran) Ofc. Marcus Mendoza and Lt. Kynrick Koralewski. This was at the request of the guests, so I had to honor it. In this episode we are going to talk about bike cops!  21 Jump  Street style lol. They are representing the North Texas Police Cycling team and much more. There is so much more to being a cop than just patrol and maybe this will strike some interest in the career field some never considered. This is a first for TCOD, so bare with us as we see how this goes together. Feel free to chime in and we will try to answer questions along the way.

In this episode, I speak with Psychologist Dr. Brandy Benson. She is a part of the non-profit Mental Health for Heroes ( MHforHeroes.org). They provide 3rd party mental health care for first responders. We discuss the importance of mental health, why it should be a priority to have a 3rd party option outside your agency, and much more in the realm of PTSD/Mental health care. She is a great person and a wonderful conversationalist, but don't take my word for it. Check it out and enjoy.

In this episode of the podcast, I have my good friend, mentor, and co-worker. Sgt Rick Mendoza. He has 20+ years of police experience and he has noticed a gap in the roots of police work. That is the absent of God/spirituality and mentorship throughout departments. Listen as he discusses how he uses his leadership experience and his journey with God to heal the roots of officers in order to improve family relationships and quality of police work. Do they correlate? After hearing this episode, you decide. I knew this would be fun and Rick is a standup guy. I hope you enjoy.

In this episode we finish up Matt's incredible journey of being run over by a high speed stolen vehicle while trying to deploy stop sticks. He speaks of the recovery process, the life saving measures used, and the continued mental and physical fight he is going through. It is a good look at what the news and media doesn't talk about, the fight after the fight. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. Matt is a geniune hero in my book and a great role model.

In this episode of the podcast, I talk with Ofc. Matt Brazeal. We discuss his attempt at stopping a stolen vehicle with stop sticks only to find himself being run down by the bad guy. A lot of ups and downs in this...A real look at what an officer goes through with trauma both physically and mentally. This is a two-parter. I hope you enjoy

In this episode I have the honor of speaking with David Putnam. He is an author and retired LEO. During his law enforcement career, “Deputy Dave” Putnam worked primarily in California on teams for Patrol, Investigations, SWAT, Narcotics (street level and majors), Violent Crimes, Criminal Intelligence, Internal Affairs and the Detective Bureau. He rounded out his law enforcement career with a few years in the Hawaiian Islands as a Special Agent–part of a real-life “Hawaii-50” team. He’s now retired from law enforcement and spends his time growing organic California avocados and writing, with his wife Mary and their three dogs.

This episode highlights just how different law enforcement is today compared to the 80's-90's. David speaks about his shooting, chasing bank robbers and much more. Be sure to check out his many books to include: The Disposables, The Bruno Johnson Trilogy, and the latest A Fearsome Moonlight Black: The Bone Detective, A Dave Beckett Novel. It was a great time and I hope yall enjoy

In this episode I talk with former NYPD-9/11 decorated Hero, John Verdi. He is the founder of Hey, Blue. The Hey, Blue! initiative facilitates moments of meaningful connection between police officers and members of their community by offering intentional opportunities for individuals to meet and share positive experiences. John is a true pillar of community leadership and it was an honor to learn about what he has going on to bridge the gap long after he left the job.   #HeyBlue #community #connection

This was truly a fun episode and something I had planned for a long time. I got to do an episode with my kids. My oldest Katelyn (13yo) and my youngest Cambry (11yo). We discuss what its like for them growing up with a dad for cop. It's a shorter episode, but worth it.
