Two Cops One Donut

In this episode, I speak with 67-year-old small business owner, William Miller. William owns a cowboy boot-making store called Way Out West Boots (https://wayoutwestboots.com/). This store is a pillar to Cow Town and Western heritage/culture. This family operation has roots that link back to the 1950s. We discuss the importance that police take the time to not just respond to calls to small businesses, but actually invest time into getting to know them. This interpersonal relationship-building with stakeholders could be a major contributing factor to the health of a city and lowering crime. We also discuss western history in boot making and just how awesome it is to take the time to get to know the source of the passion behind your small business owners. Truly an honor and a privilege to interview this man. One of the few remaining of a dying art.

In this episode, I interview School Resource Officer (SRO), Ethan Judd. He has been an officer since 2007 and has 10+ years of SRO experience. In the wake of the Uvalde tragedy, I thought it was vital to instill confidence in our parents on how a major department protects our children. If you want to skip the introductions and get to the meat and potatoes; fast forward about 60 minutes into the interview. This was very informative to me and I think it will be for everyone. It may not mean much or bring any comfort to people right now, but our thoughts and prayers are with the families and victims of Uvalde.

In this episode, I talk about Community Policing, and how to make lasting impressions one person at a time. I also discuss how there is a balance between community policing and enforcement. If you lean too far one way or the other, it will fail. I ramble for about an hour because I am solo. I hope you enjoy it.

In this episode, I talk with use of force and de-escalation expert Jon Burke. He is a Royce Gracie Black Belt, owner of P4 and Next Level Combatives. We discuss how learning to grapple and fight actually lowers the chances for uses of force by police. It is a weird concept, I know, but I think it is key to training police and bridging the gap. Take a listen and judge for yourself

In this episode, I have S. Florida police Commander, Joe Schaefer. He is also the author of the book "Police Fragility". Joe is trying to address a gap in police training and that is teaching the bad parts of where police came from. His view is we spend all our time teaching the good about police, starting with its history. However, neglecting to teach the bad history of policing is doing a disservice to the community and also the officers we send out. I don't want to give it all away, please take a listen. This is by far one of my favorite interviews simply because we were so much alike in our ideals. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
