On the Unchanging Word Bible study with Dr.John G. Mitchell, we begin anew in John 17.
In this chapter we hear the prayer of our Lord to His Father, with His disciples in attendance.

December 21, 2022 Gospel of John 16:16-33 - Jesus speaks that the disciples would be scattered. He promises His peace not the world's peace - Prog 78
Dr. Mitchell, here on the Unchanging Word, will be covering John 16:23-33.

Welcome to this study through the Gospel of John.
Continuing on from our last lesson, we will be hearing Jesus telling His disciples that,
having come from the Father, into the world, He would now be leaving the world
and would be returning to the Father.

The disciples said they now believed that Jesus had come from God.
But Jesus questioned whether they really and truly believed.
Dr. Mitchell will speak of this time when the Holy Spirit indwells the believer in Christ
who then is able to address the Father Himself personally.
Then Dr. Mitchell gives a short over view of the present ministry of Christ for the believer as well.

December 20, 2022 Gospel of John 16:16-28 - Jesus told his disciples that their sorrow would be turned to joy - they would again see Him in that day - Prog 77
Welcome once again to the Unchanging Word bible study. Our study continues in John 16:16.
Jesus and His 11 disciples are in the upper room in Jerusalem just before He goes to the cross.
He is teaching them about a coming day when He will no longer be physically with them.
So in telling them this truth, He also tells them, they would have sorrow but that in that day,
their sorrow would be turned to joy after His resurrection.
And in that day, their prayer life would change.
In that day they would be able to speak and pray to the Father Himself in Jesus' name.
This of course is all new to His dear disciples.
Dr. Mitchell discusses the perplexity of Jesus' disciples and how they did not understand
what He had said to them. He then points out the Christians' resources from God.

December 19, 2022 Gospel of John 16:12-15 - Jesus tells the disciples of the Spirit of truth - Prog 76
The Unchanging Word Bible study continues our study in the Gospel of John chapter 16 verses 12-15.
In these verses Jesus is telling His 11 remaining disciples that He has yet more things to reveal to them. He speaks of the Spirit of truth that would be coming who would then speak and reveal to them the things He would hear from Jesus, and not only from Jesus but from God the Father as well.
Dr. Mitchell brings out the fact that man does not know the truth of God apart from the Holy Spirit of God. He shares what Jesus prayed in Matthew 11 of what the Father revealed as well as what Jesus told Peter in Matthew 16:17, "..flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven."
It is the Holy Spirit of God who searches and reveals the deep things of God.

December 16, 2022 Gospel of John 16:7-11 - Jesus speaks of the Holy Spirit's 3 fold ministry to the world - Prog 75
Our study in the Gospel of John chapter 16 continues with verse 7 here on the Unchanging Word Bible study.
In this passage, Jesus is instructing His remaining 11 disciples concerning the ministry of the Spirit of truth,
the Holy Spirit of God with respect to the world.
As He said earlier, this world is opposed to Jesus Himself.
So when the Spirit of truth is come,
He will convince the world of sin, righteousness and judgment
all of which revolves around Jesus Christ Himself.
Dr. Mitchell will takes each of these verses and explains what the Holy Spirit does with respect to the world.
He deals with its particular sin with regards to Christ,
the fact of the righteousness of Christ and the judgment by Christ on the prince of this world.
So, let's open our Bibles to John 16 verse 7 with Dr. Mitchell here in the Unchanging Word.

December 15, 2022 Gospel of John 16:5-7 - Jesus' going away was an advantage to the disciples by sending the Holy Spirit - Prog 74
The Unchanging Word Bible study continues in John 16.
After speaking about fruit bearing, and the opposition to fruit bearing which is the world,
Dr. Mitchell defines the world, in this context, as the moral and religious system opposed to the Savior.
Jesus continues in verse 5 as He now speaks of the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom He would send.
Dr. Mitchell reviews four verses in the Gospel of John referring to the Holy Spirit, the Spirt of truth
whom Jesus would send.
Dr. Mitchell will speak of the indwelling of the Spirit of God in every believer trusting the Lord Jesus Christ.
What is it that the Holy Spirit wants you to do in the body of Christ?
He will bear witness of the Lord Jesus in His ministry through you.
God supplies this, His provision, so we are not left alone to glorify Christ.

December 14, 2022 Gospel of John 15:18-16:4 - Jesus exposes the world's opposition to Himself, His Father and His disciples in fruit bearing - Prog 73
Thank you for joining us here on the Unchanging Word Bible study.
In the Gospel of John, our study is in chapter 15 verses 18 through Chapter 16 verse 4.
Jesus having spoken to His disciples to love one another,
He now turns to instruct them about the world and its opposite attitude to Christ
and His disciples. 31 times the Lord uses the word world in this context.
Dr. Mitchell gives us the Biblical meaning for the word "world" which in this context
is a religious system opposed to our sinless Lord Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh.
Although they have no basis or cause, or any valid reason for hating the Lord Jesus
and God His Father, and His disciples they still do.

Such is the unreasonable persistence of unbelief and sin.

We will be looking at verses 15-17.
In these verses Jesus is speaking to His 11 disciples concerning being His friends
and no longer as servants having been chosen by Christ to bear fruit that remains
Dr. Mitchell goes into detail about God being the friend of the believer.
He will discourse on Abraham, the friend of God, and Moses whom God knew
face to face and spoke to Moses as a man speaks with His friend.
Dr. Mitchell points out that being a friend of God also recognizes

Our study is in the Gospel of John who wrote this gospel to reveal the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ
and the Unchanging Word continues in John 15 at verse 8.
This chapter 15 is part of the Upper room discourse of the Lord Jesus written by John in John
in chapters 13-17.
In these chapters, Jesus is speaking to His 11 remaining disciples.
And in verses 8-15, Jesus speaks of His love, His Joy, His friendship.
Jesus also speaks of the greatest love of laying down one's life for His friends
which is just what He has done for us, shedding His own blood on the cross then being raised to life again.

He will also show us the distinctions between being servants of Christ compared to being friends of Jesus.

Our study in the Gospel of John continues in chapter 15 verses 7-14.
This is the Unchanging Word Bible study.
As Jesus further instructs His disciples, He continues with the truth
of abiding in Him and abiding in His love.
And in so doing, His disciples are His friends.

It is to lay down one's life for His friends.
