We are now in the section of this book of John called the Upper Room discourse where Jesus is teaching His disciples privately concerning things to come.
But first of all the Lord Jesus needs to teach His disciples a lesson in humility and what true cleansing is all about. Peter here learns a lesson about submission to the Lord Jesus. However there was one of the twelve who was not clean. The Apostle John writes how Jesus already knew who it was who was going to betray Him.
John also writes if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and the cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Jesus is our advocate in heaven praying for us. 1Jn 1:9-2:2

The Unchanging Word Bible study comes to you today studying in
the Gospel of John beginning in chapter 13 at verse 1.
Today begins the study in what is known as the Upper Room discourse.
Jesus and His disciples gathered together for their last passover meal.
Jesus is privately teaching His disciples. The Apostle John who was there,
now reflecting back on this supper by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit
some 60 years earlier, he writes to us of Jesus full extent of His love and humility.
John also writes of what was in the heart of Judas, even then, to betray Jesus.
Dr. Mitchell begins this study with a short overview of the chapters
we have covered so far in our study of the Gospel of John.

November 21, 2022 Gospel of John 12:41-50 - Jesus speaks and works in submission to His Father - Prog 56
In our study of the Gospel of John, the Unchanging Word Bible study begins today's study in John 12:41-50.
Some of the Pharisees believed in Jesus but were afraid to make it known.
Jesus responds by saying that the one truly believes in Him is also believing in the one who sent Him,
that is, God His Father.

And seeing Jesus is seeing God in action.
Jesus also makes it clear that He does not judge the one who hears His words but does not keep them,
but this very same word will be the judge at the last day.
It is good to know that we can trust what our Lord Jesus has spoken and said,
for His words are spirit and they are life.
The Word of God tells us to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and we will be saved.

November 18, 2022 Gospel of John 12:31-40 - Jesus speaks of His being lifted up on the cross - Prog 55
Welcome to the Unchanging Word Bible study!
We are in John 12:31-40.

In our passage today, Jesus speaks of the fact that the ruler of this world
would be cast out because of the judgment that was upon the world.
This would be accomplished by His being lifted up from the earth.
Also He said, if I be lifted up, meaning on the cross, I will draw all men to Myself.
It is quite evident that our Lord is clearly seen by all who look to Him.
As we continue, we see that many did not believe in the Messiah
in order that the Word of Isaiah might be fulfilled.
Here once again, unbelievers fulfill the Word of God that was prophesied.
The prophecies of the Word of God will be fulfilled in the future even as they were in the past.

November 17, 2022 Gospel of John 12:25-33 - Jesus is the center of attraction at the Passover Feast - Prog 54
This is the Unchanging Word Bible study.
We are looking at John 12: 25-33 today.
Jesus draws our attention to the fact that our service for the Lord is to be a selfless service.
When that is so, Jesus said that where He is there will His servant be also and the Father will honor him.
Also, in this passage before us, we hear God the Father speak once again to Jesus.
This is the third time God spoke to His Son from heaven.
The first was at Jesus' baptism, the second was on the mount of transfiguration
and now here also.
God always hears the prayers of Jesus on each of these occasions
as in Hebrews 5:7 where Jesus prays to be saved out of death.

Welcome to our study in John 12 verses 12-24.
You are listening to the Unchanging Word Bible study.
Here Jesus is the center of attraction as He enters into the city of Jerusalem on a donkey.
The Lord Jesus is here literally fulfilling the Old Testament prophecy of Zechariah 9.
The disciples only understood what this event meant after Jesus was raised from the dead.
And as the feast of the passover continued, there came some gentiles,
Greeks who wanted to see Jesus.
Jesus responded to this by saying,
"The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified."
The Lord attracts disciples.
Has the Lord Jesus Christ attracted you to Himself?
Do you find Him worthy of your attention, devotion and worship?

November 15, 2022 Gospel of John 12:1-11 - Jesus the center of attention and worship - Prog 52
Today on the Unchanging Word Bible study we are studying in John 12:1-12.
Here we see Jesus as a guest of Mary, Martha and Lazarus whom Jesus raised from the dead.
Here we find that Martha served Jesus,
Lazarus reclined at table with Jesus and
Mary worshipped Jesus anointing the savior with perfume and wiping His feet with her hair.
How do you and I worship the Lord?
Service to the Lord flows out from our worship of Him.
Remember Jesus' words when He said,

"You shall worship the Lord you God, and Him only shall you serve". Matt.4:10.

Our passage today is John 11:38-57.
Today the Lord demonstrates His power to raise the dead as He said in John 5:21
FOR JUST AS THE FATHER RAISES THE DEAD AND GIVES THEM LIFE,
EVEN SO THE SON GIVES LIFE TO WHOM HE WILLS.

Jesus spoke with authority to Lazarus calling him by name to come out.
And Lazarus came out of the tomb, bound hands and feet.
Dr. Mitchell observes the cooperation of man with God.
He states that what we can do God does not do, and what we cannot do, God does.

November 11, 2022 Gospel of John 11:28-38 - Jesus the resurrection and the life weeps - Prog 50
Welcome to the Unchanging Word Bible study.
In our lesson today, once again we see two responses to the death of Lazarus.
The first response comes from Mary. She said the very same words to Jesus as her sister Martha had said.

The second response comes from Jesus.
As we are beginning in John 11:28, Dr. Mitchell shows us the difference in attitude of Mary when she comes to speak to Jesus.
Dr. Mitchell points out three different pictures of Mary in the Gospels showing her love for the savior.
Jesus responds by identifying Himself with those who were mourning.
How tender. We are reminded in Heb.4:15 that the Lord Jesus is touched with feeling of our infirmities.
He would “Weep with those who weep..” Romans 12:15.
