February 14, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 14:1-3 - Prog 66
This study begins in Mark 14 verse 1.
Dr. Mitchell gives a short overview of
the chapter before going into the first
three verses.

Right away we read of the plot of the
rulers of the people against Jesus, to
put Him to death. But they did not
want to do this during the feast which
might cause an uproar among the people
who were there.

Dr. Mitchell points out that Jesus set
the time of His death and the manner of
His death. He was in control of His
fulfilling what was written of Him in
the Scriptures.

We then hear a short overview of the
next verses about Jesus in Bethany.

Let’s open our Bible to Mark 14:1.

February 11, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 13:30-37 - Prog 65

We will finish up chapter 13 with
verses 30-37.
What stands out in this passage is the
fact of the abiding Word of God. Jesus
said, the heavens and the earth will
pass away but, He said, ‘My words will
not pass away.’ God’s Word will endure
for all eternity.
Ps.119 says, “Forever, O LORD, thy word
is settled in heaven.”
Our Lord gives everyone a command to Be
alert. As Dr. Mitchell says, The coming
of the Lord is certain but the time of
His coming is uncertain.
The need to be on the alert is
emphasized by the Lord to His disciples
by means of parable. This parable
pictures a man going away and
the servants of his house and
the door keeper are to be watching
for his return.

February 10, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 13:24-26 - Prog 64
We now pick up from where we left off
in our last lesson. We are in Mark 13:24-30.
Dr. Mitchell will be examining the words
of our Lord Jesus who describes His
coming again back to the earth from
heaven in power and great glory.
Dr. Mitchell compares and contrasts
Jesus’ first coming with His second
coming. He states you can either meet
the Lord as your savior or you will meet
Him as your judge. Have you met the Lord
Jesus Christ yet? Just come and talk to
Him and let Him know you would like to
meet Him personally. He will meet you
where you are just as you are.
There is a difference between the times
of the gentiles and the fulness of the
gentiles.

February 10, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 13:24-26 - Prog 63
In Mark 13 we look at verses 24-26. In
these 3 verses, Jesus speaks of the time
after the tribulation. Here He describes
the disruption of the heavens including
the sun, the moon, stars and the powers
of heaven. It will be a time of deep
dark blackness.
At the culmination of this period
of time, the Lord Jesus Christ
Himself will come from heaven as the Son
of Man, coming in the clouds with great
power and glory. His will be a bright
and unmistakeable display of His glory.
No one on earth, in seeing Him, can
avoid Him.
In verse 27, Jesus will send forth His
angels to collect His elect Jewish
believers to Himself wherever they are scattered.
Let’s turn to Mark 13:24 with Dr.
Mitchell to hear Jesus’ words concerning
His coming again.

February 08, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 13:14-23 - Prog 62
In Mark 13:14-23 our study continues.
Jesus is describing things to come to 4
of His disciples, Peter, James, John and
Andrew.
In these verses our Lord speaks of the
portion of time when an idol is set up
in the temple. This incident was first
spoken of by Daniel the prophet. Dr.
Mitchell will explore this more in
depth.
This time is called the great
tribulation which is described by many
of the Old Testament prophets as the day
of the LORD. Here Jesus refers to this 7
year period of time, which John later
writes about in the book of Revelation
6-19 in great detail. The church will
not be there then at all.
Although the tribulation is worldwide in
scope, it centers on the physical nation
of Israel in particular and their deliverance from it.

February 07, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 13:1-13 - Prog 61
Study in the Gospel of Mark
continues in chapter 13. Here Jesus
gives us an overview of things to
come. In this lesson, verses 1-13, we
find 4 disciples sitting with Jesus
on the Mount of Olives.
Dr. Mitchell points out:
Persecution is less in the US and Canada
but it is changing during this present
generation, not against religion but
against the savior, against our love for Him
and against the gospel of the grace of
God.
Here in the 21st century, Dr. Mitchell
makes reference to the 20th century.
Here we are in another year of this
twenty-first century with the Unchanging
Word of God. It is still trustworthy,
intact and able to minister
to this current generation revealing the
Person and work of our Lord Jesus
Christ.

February 04, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 12:35-44 - Prog 60
We finish up Mark 12 in verse 35. Our
Lord Jesus Christ uses scripture to
question His enemies.
He put them, theologically and
intellectually on the horns of dilemma,
between the Rock and a hard place.
How can the Messiah be both King David’s
Lord and yet be David’s son? That is,
how can the Messiah be both the root of
and fruit of David at the same time? Do
you know?
The Lord gives a warning to the people.
Beware of men which desire to be great.
Our Lord next brings us a commendation.
He watched a poor widow in the temple
treasury put in all the money she
had to live on. This shows two things.
1st The absolute devotion and sacrifice to
the Lord.
2nd The yoke of bondage imposed by the
religious system on the people.

February 03, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 12:23-34 - Prog 59
Dr. Mitchell continues in Mark 12:23 with
the Sadducees confronting Jesus. Their
hypothetical situation was so construed
as to deprecate the resurrection of the
body by the living God. These Sadducees
are likened to the theological liberals of
this present generation.
As Mark writes, Jesus said they were in
error because they did not know the
Scriptures nor the power of the living
God. God is the God of the living, not
of the dead.
Then Jesus is asked by a discerning
scribe what is the greatest commandment
of the law. After Jesus answered this
sincere request, the man recognized
the real intent and spirit of the law.
The Lord Jesus recognized the heart and
mind of this Scribe. He was near to
the kingdom of God in his understanding.

February 02, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 12:14-27 - Prog 58
Our study resumes in Mark 12:13.
Another trap is set for the Lord
Jesus. Three groups band together
trying to trap the Lord Jesus in a
statement. These were the Pharisees,the
Herodians and the Sadducees.

Dr. Mitchell gives us an insightful
examination of these confrontations.
He first takes the Pharisees and then
the Herodians, who were in opposition
to one another normally, but were now
united against Christ.

Mark writes that Jesus knew their
hypocrisy and put them to a test with
a coin.

Then later the Sadducees confronted
Jesus with a hypothetical situation
concerning marriage and resurrection.
Is it not ironical? They did not even
believe in physical resurrection.

Jesus shows they did not know the
Scripture or the power of God, or the
Living God of resurrection.

February 01, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 11:27 - 12:12 - Prog 57
After a short review of the last lesson
on faith and prayer, Dr. Mitchell takes
us through Mark 11:27 thru 12:12.
In these two passages, Mark presents
Jesus being challenged by the religious
rulers in the temple in Jerusalem.
They Questioned Jesus’ about the source
of His authority.
Jesus conditioned His answer on the answer
these rulers would give to Him. He asked them
whether John the Baptist was sent by God
or men. So they said, they did not know.
So Jesus didn’t give them His source of
authority. Yet how many times had our
Lord demonstrated the authority of God
in His words and works?
Then in Chapter 12, Jesus, speaks
another parable, revealing how the
nation of Israel had rejected God’s
previous servants and prophets and
Jesus would be one of them.
