January 31, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 11:20-26 - Prog 56
In Mark 11:20-26 we are covering two
topics. One has to do with the prayer of
faith. Also when one is praying there is
to also be a forgiving heart.
Dr. Mitchell explains the meaning of the
fig tree as being the nation of Israel.
But in contrast to the unbelieving
nation, Jesus tells His disciples to
have faith in God, literally, have faith
of God.
Romans 10:18 says faith comes from
hearing and hearing comes from the word
of God, or of Christ. Dr. Mitchell gives
several passages dealing with praying to
God with requests. He points out the
motivation for one’s prayer. Is it for
God’s glory in the Son?
Dr. Mitchell then proceeds to the matter
of forgiveness one with another.

January 28, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 11:12-22 - Prog 55
In Mark 11:12-22 we see Jesus, having
come to the village of Bethany from
Jerusalem, now returning to Jerusalem
the next morning.
In verse 12 we see an example of Jesus’
humanity. He was hungry. Having
come to a fig tree full of leaves but
having no figs, Jesus curses the tree.
Dr. Mitchell will explain the meaning of
this fig tree, not bearing fruit at that
time.
Our Lord then makes His way into the
temple. He once again cleanses the
temple. This is the second time He
cleans house. His house had become an
emporium, a place for buying and selling
sacrificial animals.
Dr. Mitchell speaks into our present
generation of the commercializing of
divine things, where spiritual
degeneracy is rampant, where spiritual
things are being sold for profit.

January 27, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 11:1-14 - Prog 54
As we journey on with the Lord Jesus,
we now turn to Mark 11. Our Lord, having
come out of Jericho, is proceeding on to
Jerusalem.

In these first 14 verses of chapter 11,
our Lord is pictured as one who will
enter into Jerusalem on the back of a
colt, the foal of a donkey. As Dr.
Mitchell mentions, this fulfills
Zech.9:9 where it was prophesied that
the Messiah would ride into Jerusalem
on a donkey and the people were to
rejoice. He will yet come to them.

But in this instance, He was coming to
them, not to reign as their King but as
a savior to die on the cross for their
sins, and yours and mine. Do you know
your sins are forgiven?

January 26, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 10:45-52 - Prog 53
Here in the Gospel of Mark, this lesson
begins in chapter 10 verses 45 thru 52
After Jesus spoke of Himself as one who
came to minister and to give His life a
ransom for many, in fact for all, He now
ministers once again near Jericho.
A blind man by the name of Bartimaeus
which means son of Timaeus asked Jesus
to give his eye sight back to him.
This blind man was initially rebuked by
the crowd standing along the way.
But Jesus heard him calling out to Him
as Jesus, Son of David. This blind man
recognized Jesus as the coming Messiah,
the Messiah who was born in the city of
David as Christ the Lord - the Savior,
to save His people.

January 24, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 10:35-45 - Prog 51
The Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast is
in the Gospel of Mark chapter 10. We
will be looking at verses 35 thru 45. In
these 10 verses, Mark presents Jesus’
response to the requests of James and John.What did they request?
They wanted Jesus to place each of them
next to Himself, one on the right hand
and one of left hand in His glory.
And we read that the other 10 disciples
were miffed at James and John by asking
first.
So here the Lord Jesus speaks to all
His disciples of humble service and
ministry stating whoever wants to be
first, must be slave of all, giving
Himself as the premiere example.
Let’s turn to Mark 10:35 as Dr. Mitchell
shares Jesus’ response to what these
two disciples were asking of Him.

January 21, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 10:32-34 - Prog 50
In Mark 10:32-34, we hear Jesus telling His disciples what would be and was converging upon Him in Jerusalem.
This will be the last time our Lord mentions His coming suffering, death and resurrection. This begins the last week of our Lord’s life on earth.
It is here that Our Lord refers, once again, to Himself as the Son of Man, His favorite title for Himself.
This is the title for the Messiah. Up to this point in the book of Mark, Jesus has used this phrase, Son of Man, 7 times. Mark writes this title for Jesus a total of 14 times in his Gospel with chapter 10:45 referencing His servanthood.

January 20, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 10:22-31 - Prog 49
A we continue in Mark 10, we’re looking
at verses 22-31.
Here Mark records Jesus’ words as
concerning the difficulty of those
occupied with wealth to enter the
kingdom of God.
Dr. Mitchell notes, it is not
impossible, but it can be difficult for
such a one who makes wealth a priority
over a relationship to the Lord Jesus
Christ
1st Timothy 6:17 gives instruction for
those believers, who are rich in this
present age, to set their hope on God
rather than on the uncertainty of
riches.
Peter wanted to know what about the
disciples who left everything to follow
Jesus. What reward would they have?
Jesus replied, They would have a family of God along
with persecutions and in the age to
come, eternal life.
Dr. Mitchell, Mark 10:22, on the

January 19, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 10:17-22 - Prog 48
In Mark 10:17-22, Mark writes of a rich
young man coming to Jesus, saying, “Good
teacher”. Jesus asked him why he called
Him good. No one one is good except
one, God.
Jesus emphasizes the absolute goodness
of God. Was the young man acknowledging
Jesus as being absolutely good as well,
as being God?
Dr. Mitchell brings out the ignorance of
the young man, even in his own
integrity, as to his actual condition
before God.
Maybe you have done all you know to do
thinking it would give you acceptance
with God, even by religious ceremonies.
You may be like Cornelius, a God
fearing man, but still needed to hear
the gospel message of salvation by
grace. Acts 10. Have you believed in the Lord
Jesus Christ and know your sins are forgiven?

January 18, 2022 Gospel of Mark - Mark 10:9-16 - Prog 47

The Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast
continues in the Gospel of Mark. We are
in chapter 10. We continue on from our
previous lesson where Jesus had been
confronted by the Pharisees as to
whether it was lawful, e.g. legal for a
man to send his wife away, e.g. divorce
her. It concludes with Jesus welcoming
little children.
Jesus speaks of God’s original purpose
for man and woman to be joined together
and to become one flesh no longer being
two but one flesh.
Jesus pinpoints the reason why divorce
occurs. It’s simply because of hardness
of heart. Hardness of heart is a
compound word meaning a ‘shriveled
heart’, dried up and without any
feeling, hardened, without any
affection. Note this hardness toward the
marriage partner is first of all, the
result of a hardness against God and His
Word.
