Since we are waiting for God's promise of a new heavens and a new earth, what are we do and how are we to be?

Our study begins in 2nd Peter 3 verse 13 where Peter draws applications for those who are waiting for the Lord. He speaks of it in verse 14.

In verses 15-16 Peter again directs us to the Scripture. He speaks of the Scriptures that Paul had also written to these believers in Christ.

In verses 17 and 18, Peter concludes with an exhortation to be on guard against error and at the same time to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Let's do that now with Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, 2 Peter 3:13-18.

In verses 8 thru 12 of 2Peter chapter 3, Peter turns his attention to these beloved believers in the Savior. Here he writes concerning the Lord's perspective on time, the coming of the Day of the Lord and the Day of God.

Dr. Mitchell states that God's time and man's time are two different things. What man counts as slowness is actually God being patient with us not willing that any should perish.

Dr. Mitchell emphasizes the Word of God and it's importance for each person. It prevents unbelief. Paul writes that "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of Christ." Rom.10:17

Let's join Dr. Mitchell in 2nd Peter 3:8 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

We are in 2Peter chapter 3. We are looking at verses 5 thru 7 where Peter writes of these scoffers who are willingly ignorant.

What are they willing ignorant of? It has to do with their view of God's creation and God's judgment at the flood. These both occurred by the Word of God. They are ignorant of the fact that the present heavens and earth exist by this very same Word of God.

This manifests the need for a person to be in the Word of God, the Scriptures, the Bible. It is here that God has revealed the truth.

Do you seek to know the truth? Jesus Himself said, "If you abide in My Word, you are truly disciples of mine and you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free." John 8:31-32.

Let's join Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, 2nd Peter 3:5-7.

Our study continues in 2Peter chapter 3 looking at verses 3 and 4.

Peter exposed the false teachers in chapter 2 who deny the Master who bought them. In chapter 3, he now exposes those who mock our Lord Jesus Christ and His 2nd Coming.

Dr. Mitchell explains these verses making a distinction between the Lord's 2nd Coming to the earth to set up His kingdom and the coming of the Lord for His own, the church, the body of Christ.

Through the apostle Peter, God is already informing us of what is coming now in these last days. Dr. Mitchell points out that the Apostles Paul and John also wrote of these last days in detail.

On the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast Dr. Mitchell specifies which doctrines these mockers and false teachers are attacking and denying in these last days.

Turn with us in your Bible to 2Peter 3:2-4.

Thank you for being with us here as we now begin chapter 3 of 2nd Peter with Dr. Mitchell. He will be focusing on verses 1 and 2.

Peter writes this second letter to remind these beloved of the predictions previously made by the new testament prophets and also to remind them of the words of our Lord Jesus Christ through the apostles.

In this 2nd epistle of Peter, Peter has already reminded the reader of the qualities they should develop. This is found in chapter 1 verses 5-12. He then reminds us that he, was with the Lord on the Mount of Transfiguration. He then reminds the readers in chapter 1 verses 13-21, that the Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit is more sure than any experience.

Welcome once again to the ⁠Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast This is the 31st installment of the Ambassador ⁠Weekend review with our teacher Dr. John G. Mitchell.

Dr. Mitchell continues his overview of the book of John. Here we take a look at Jesus our Savior, the Word Who Was in the Beginning and who was with God and who is God.

Dr. Mitchell finishes John 4 with the fields white unto harvest. He then begins in John 5 as Jesus prepares to heal a lame man waiting at a pool.

John's purpose in writing his gospel is 'that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God and that believing, you may have life in His name.

Our study continues in 2nd Peter verses 17 to the end of chapter 2 with Dr. Mitchell.

Continuing on Peter writes more of the character of false teachers who were coming in among these who were believers in Christ and the Word of God.

Dr. Mitchell examines verses 17 thru 22 which speak of the emptiness and future destiny of those who although promising freedom were themselves slaves of corruption. What a deception and hypocrisy they promote. They are described as waterless springs, mists driven by a storm. Empty profession with great swelling words with no substance and without any promise.

Especially pernicious is their turning from the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to become entangled in their former defilements.

Let's turn in our Bible to 2Peter 2:17 with Dr. Mitchell here on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Dr. Mitchell continues in 2nd Peter chapter 2 verses 12 thru 16. The fruit-age of the false teachers continues to be exposed in these verses.

Peter writes of the false teachers. His description of them continues for several verses in which their corruption becomes evident. Peter writes such words as, irrational, ignorant, blots, blemishes, eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin, trained in greed, accursed.

Dr. Mitchell relates how they have abandoned the Word of God and gone in the way of Balaam. He goes on to explain how this prophet loved the wages of unrighteousness. He prophesied the things of God for material gain. This is the commercialization of spiritual things, those of God, and of of Christ.

Can you see this today in certain circles of the church?

Let's join Dr. Mitchell with Bibles open to 2Pt.2:12-16 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

2nd Peter chapter 2 verses 10 and 11 will be our focus in this lesson.

In these verses, Peter writes to us about the unrighteous false teachers. 5 distinct evil characteristics are brought out in verse 10.

In verse 11, a contrast is made. Peter contrasts the attitudes and words of the false teachers with those of angelic majesties who are greater in might and power.

Dr. Mitchell shares the fruit-age of these false teachers and their teachings with this present generation. Times have not changed. In fact, it is worse now than it has ever been.

Who do you listen to? What do they say about the savior? Who do they say Jesus is? What do they say about what Christ has done for them by His cross, resurrection and present work for them in heaven?

Here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, 2 Peter 2:10-11.

Dr. Mitchell turns our focus from God's judgments of the ungodly and unrighteous to God's deliverance of the righteous.

He explores the circumstances surrounding the days of Sodom and Gomorrah by which Lot, Abraham's nephew, was influenced. God saw Lot as a righteous man. However, Lot had compromised his life with the Lord while living in the midst of these cities. But, God sent angels to deliver him and his family.

Dr. Mitchell notes God's deliverance for those who are His people and God's judgment upon those not His people.

God can, does and will deliver those who trust in His Son, Jesus Christ. God, then, treats you as righteous and delivers you from His judgement upon the unrighteous.
