Continuing on from verse 3 where the savior has called us to His own glory and virtue, Dr. Mitchell teaches 2Peter 1 verse 4 in depth.

In this verse Peter writes about great and precious promises and becoming partaker of the divine nature. Dr. Mitchell points out that God has called us to glory and virtue and not to failure.

Dr. Mitchell examines the meaning of the the words 'the divine nature' which comes by way of these great promises. Having trusted in the savior, one becomes partaker of the divine nature which delivers one from the corruption that is in the world.

Dr. Mitchell then points out 3 things in these verses that are divine and 3 things which have to do with the believer.

Let's turn in our Bibles to 2nd Peter chapter 1 verse 4 with Dr. Mitchell, here on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In our study, Dr. Mitchell focuses on the Word of God and the need to feed on it in 2nd Peter. He brings out what we need in these times of declension such as is apparent in these days.

Our study begins in 2Peter chapter 1 verses 1 thru 3.

In verse one we see that the believer has a faith equally precious in the sight of God compared to the original disciples and apostles.

This verse states the Deity of Jesus Christ as our God and Savior.

In verse two, Dr. Mitchell examines grace and peace which comes through the knowledge of God and of Jesus Christ our Lord. He brings out that this knowledge is a personal relationship with Christ.

In verse three, the entire life of the christian is supplied by this knowledge of Him.

Let's join Dr. Mitchell, 2Peter 1:1.

Dr. Mitchell will present a short overview of the purposes of Peter's two epistles.

He relates that in 1st Peter the opposition is from the outside, the world. In 2 Peter, the opposition is from the inside, false teachers.

Dr. Mitchell begins with a preview of each of the three chapters of 2 Peter.

The first chapter is directed to the Christian himself and his faith. The second chapter exposes the false teachers who deny the very person and work of Christ and in chapter three these false teachers scoff at Christ's 2nd coming.

He shares that the christian is to be diligent to guard the heart and mind from the false teachings of those who traffic in souls. Continuing in reading the Word of God will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

On the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast Dr. Mitchell introduces 2nd Peter.

Welcome once again to the ⁠Unchanging Word Bible broadcast This is the 28th installment of the Ambassador ⁠Weekend review with our teacher Dr. John G. Mitchell.

Dr. Mitchell continues his overview of the book of John. Here we take a look at Jesus our Savior, the Word Who Was in the Beginning and who was with God and who is God. John's purpose in writing his gospel is 'that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God and that believing, you may have life in His name.

Here is Dr. Mitchell in John 3 with Nicodemus and the need to be born again, born from above.

Dr. Mitchell concludes his study in 1st Peter with this lesson. We are looking at 1st Peter 5:8-14.

He gives an overview of scriptural teaching about the devil. In this lesson in verse 9, we are told to resist the devil firm in the faith.

Dr. Mitchell shares several scriptures on resisting the devil even as our Lord did during His earthly temptation found in Mt.4 and Luke 4. The victory against this adversary is found in the Word of God, which is the sword of the Spirit.

While suffering, our strength is found in the God of all grace. God will be glorified as He has the dominion forever and ever. Amen!

Peter writes this epistle testifying that this is the true Grace of God and to stand firm in it.

Here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, 1Pet. 5:8.

1st Peter deals with the Christian's response to opposition from the world. In chapter 5 verses 7 and 8, Peter exhorts us, in the midst of this opposition, to cast our cares upon the Lord for He cares for us. This is God's assurance to us.

Dr. Mitchell recounts the experience of a WW II Army pilot who carried and read his Bible during one perilous mission. This man read verses 6 and 7 of 1st Peter chapter 5. The Lord brought back the whole squadron with no one missing. Dr. Mitchell heard this story from this man when later he came to be a radio producer for 18 years for Dr. Mitchell. He was able to resist the devil during the opposition through faith in the Word of God.

Here is Dr. Mitchell to share 1st Peter 5:7 & 8 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Dr. Mitchell shares with us a review of the crowns which the Lord gives to those who serve Him in faithfulness.

In 1Pt.5:5 thru 7, Peter addresses the younger people in the flock of God to whom he writes. Peter exhorts these younger ones with 3 commands and the beneficial reasons for obedience.

Dr. Mitchell addresses the younger servant of Christ. He says to be on guard against pride. He presents the Lord Jesus as our example of the one who humbled Himself in serving both His Father and those who follow Him. He also brings in Moses as one who was meek in the midst of a family confrontation. Jesus said in Mt.11:28-29 to come to Him who is meek and lowly of heart and find His rest.

Let's continue to learn about our savior here on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast with Dr. Mitchell, 1st Peter 5:5.

Our study continues in 1st Peter chapter 5, verses 2 thru 4. Dr. Mitchell takes up the question of the duties of the under-shepherds of God's flock. It is written that God purchased it with His own blood.

Dr. Mitchell reviews the Lord's dealings with Peter in the Gospel of John chapter 21. In this passage, Jesus recommissions Peter to be a shepherd to feed God's flock, God's lambs and God's sheep.

He makes application to those who teach Sunday school, or who minister to young people or teach a Bible class.

How do you love and serve Christ in these days?

Dr. Mitchell helps us understand the difference between a leader and a shepherd. It is a matter of love for Christ and His people.

1st Peter 5:2 thru 4 looks at the motives and the rewards for serving the Lord in ministry.

In these verses the Apostle Peter begins exhorting the leaders and shepherds of the flock of God among them. Dr. Mitchell notes that Peter, although an eyewitness of the sufferings of Christ, does not exalt himself over the leaders, but writes that he is a fellow elder and partaker of the coming glory.

Dr. Mitchell points out that in view of the responsibility of the those who feed the flock of God, we need to prayer and intercede for each of them.

On the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, we will be looking into verses 17 - 19 of 1st Peter chapter 4. Our teacher, Dr. Mitchell looks at the statement that it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God' found in verse 17.

He states that this is God's government of His people. He chastens His people so they will not be condemned along with the world. (1Cor.11:32)

Verse 18 asks the question, 'If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?'

Dr. Mitchell reminds us that God is a consuming fire and that it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

This should be a terror to the unsaved. But, There is a comfort to the Christian who knows Jesus Christ, that he will be saved by grace through faith.
