On the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, we will be looking into verses 17 - 19 of 1st Peter chapter 4. Our teacher, Dr. Mitchell looks at the statement that it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God' found in verse 17.

He states that this is God's government of His people. He chastens His people so they will not be condemned along with the world. (1Cor.11:32)

Verse 18 asks the question, 'If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?'

Dr. Mitchell reminds us that God is a consuming fire and that it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

This should be a terror to the unsaved. But, There is a comfort to the Christian who knows Jesus Christ, that he will be saved by grace through faith.

Here is Dr. Mitchell, 1st Peter 4:17.

Dr. Mitchell continues on the theme of suffering which confronts the Christian written in 1st Peter 4 verses 12-17.

He dismisses the prevalent idea that when one becomes a christian, life will free of troubles and problems. Dr. Mitchell points out that the cause for which one suffers determines whether the suffering is of any real value.

Verse 13 looks at the response of one suffering for Christ's sake. What is our attitude when you and I suffer? Is it one of rejoicing? The spirit of Glory and of God rests on the one who suffers for Jesus' sake.

Verses 15 and 16 lists several reasons as to why a Christian may suffer. Some are bad and the other is good.

Dr. Mitchell will continue in 1st Peter 4 verse 10 speaking of the spiritual gifts which God has given to His people. He refers to Romans chapter 12 which lists some of the gifts.

He reiterates that the gift God has given to you must be rendered in love. 1Cor.13 speaks to this issue. In so doing, God will be glorified thru Jesus Christ.

In the next section, Opposition to the believer in Christ, we are exhorted to not be surprised at the fiery trial which comes upon us.

The Christian is in reality sharing in the sufferings of Christ. We can rejoice and when the Lord returns we will be able to rejoice greatly.

Dr. Mitchell explores the several enemies which oppose the Christian. They are the world, the flesh and the devil.

Here's Dr. Mitchell--1st Peter 4 verse 10 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

We continue in 1st Peter chapter 4 verses 9 and 10.

Dr. Mitchell moves from speaking of genuine love in covering the sins of others to showing hospitality to one another without grumbling or murmuring. This hospital ity can be shown to brethren, relatives and friends.

Next, we examine verse 10 which speaks of the fact that each believer has received a spiritual gift from the Lord in which to serve one another in the body of Christ, the church. This gift is a stewardship from God, a grace gift from God in which to serve Christ.

He goes on to define scripturally that a stewardship is a divinely given responsibility for service. Dr. Mitchell speaks of being a faithful steward. God rewards faithfulness not greatness.

How faithful are you with the gift or gifts that God has given to you?

On the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, here is Dr. Mitchell, 1st Peter 4:9.

In this lesson, Dr. Mitchell will cover 1st Peter chapter 4 verses 7 and 8. Here he speaks about the end of all things which is at hand. He will exhort us to love, patient love, genuine love, fervent love even to those who are hard to love.

Only Jesus' shed blood on the cross covers our sins before God. Dr. Mitchell goes on to show that love covers a multitude of sins. This speaks of covering the sins of others before the public. He says, genuine love does not broadcast the sins and failures of God's people.

So what should one's response be? Pray for that one who has failed. This brings the failing one before God who is able to forgive and to restore.

Let's turn to 1st Peter chapter 4 verses 7 and 8 with Dr. Mitchell, here on the Unchanging Word Bible broadcast.

Welcome once again to the ⁠Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast. This is the 27th installment of the Ambassador ⁠Weekend review with our teacher Dr. John G. Mitchell.

Dr. Mitchell continues his overview of the book of John. Here we take a look at Jesus our Savior, the Word Who Was in the Beginning and who was with God and who is God. John's purpose in writing his gospel is 'that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God and that believing, you may have life in His name.

Here is Dr. Mitchell, John 1-2.

1st Peter 4 verses 6 and 7. will be the focus of our study with Dr. John G. Mitchell.

In verse 6, Dr. Mitchell gives an understanding of the phrase that says 'to those who are dead' being believers who were persecuted by the world for their faith.

In verse 7, Dr. Mitchell exhorts us all to realize that the end of all things is near. In view of the conditions of the world today and the events in the middle east, it is evident that the end of all things is near.

Several books of the Bible speak of these end times.

Dr. Mitchell shares what these are.

What is the Christian to do in view of this?

Peter writes and Dr. Mitchell says we are to be self-controlled, sober-minded for the purpose of prayer.

Here is Dr. Mitchell, 1st Peter 4 verses 6-7 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Our study continues in 1st Peter 4 verses 1 thru 6. Dr. Mitchell deals with the conduct of the believer in his walk with the Lord in doing the will of God.

Dr. Mitchell brings out that Christ's whole life was about doing the will of God. The believer is to have this same mind as Christ. In Philippians 2:5 we are exhorted to have this mind which was in Christ Jesus who did the will of God by humbling Himself. Dr. Mitchell shares John 8:29 where Jesus says, "I always do the things that please Him" that is, God His Father.

In these verses, the one who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin. What does that mean? Dr. Mitchell explains.

Let's open our Bibles and turn to 1st Peter 4 verse 1 with Dr. Mitchell, here on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Dr. Mitchell continues in 1st Peter 3 verses 21 and 22. In this context, Peter is writing about Jesus Christ. Here in chapter 3 verses 18 thru chapter 4 verse 1, Peter is writing about Jesus, His death, burial, resurrection and His seat at the right hand of God with angelic beings having been made subject to Him.

Dr. Mitchell explains what this baptism means in verse 21 as it speaks of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

Then in verse 22, we see Jesus in heaven seated at the right hand of God. He is seen as having all angelic spirits subjected to Him. Jesus is in charge of all angelic beings. They are ministering spirits sent out to minister to the believer, as Hebrews chapter 1 verse 14 tells us.

In this lesson, Dr. Mitchell brings some clarity to these often misunderstood verses. The misunderstandings come not only due to different translations but also as to what Peter meant when he wrote these words.

Dr. Mitchell reminds us of the theme of this chapter, which is patience. In these verses he shows us the patience of God. He shares the historical context in Genesis 6, of which this passage speaks. This helps us to understand these verses.

These verses speak of the days of Noah while the ark was being prepared. As Dr. Mitchell brings out, there was 120 years of preaching to that generation.
