In this my co-host, Jordy Kilgour and myself speak to Gawain Johnstone. Gawain is the first Australia-born male to squat 400 kilograms in a powerlifting competition and the first Aussie born to conquer 1000kg. His curiosity for weightlifting started at 11 years old, at school when the PE teacher encouraged him to train with the Australian Commonwealth and Olympic teams.
We discuss Gawain's journey into powerlifting, discipline and training velocities. We discuss his off-season training in comparison to his training leading up to a meet and how he manages his intensity, the metrics he finds most useful to track and how he optimises his recovery.
Gawain is such a humble, kind-hearted giant and definitely one to follow if you need to be inspired!
Happy Listening!
