  • "I'm Just Not Creative" (FALSE) - Why Everyone Benefits from Applying Creativity to Life's Problems
Don't skip this episode if you think you're "not creative."
    This episode —
    - will expand our definition of what it means to be creative.
    - share the story of how the musical Hamilton was created/inspired
    - dispel common myths about generating creative ideas
    - explore meaningful ways to help you curate your knowledge and life experiences into useful solutions/insights for others
    Question List:
To help you discover your “big idea” ask yourself:
    What fires me up?
    What bothers me?
    What is missing?
What do I keep coming back to?
    What is ripe for reinvention?
What is my unique twist on problem X?
Will I want to keep working on this idea in 6 months, a year?
If you feel like you don’t have time to be creative ask yourself:
If I begin to see my attention as a precious resource, how might that change how I choose to spend it?
    How can I shift from a manager’s schedule to a maker’s schedule?
What am I currently spending time on that is just not a priority now?
Can I trade a typical morning activity (reading news, answering emails) for time to work on my creative idea?
To help yourself look at the problem you’re looking to solve with fresh perspective, ask yourself:
What would I notice if I were encountering this for the first time?
What if I stood on the deck to look at this from a different angle?
    What is in the background?
What would Seinfeld be amused by here?
What would Steve Jobs be frustrated by?
If you’re having trouble getting started or getting momentum with your creative project or idea:
    Am I chasing butterflies?
    Who can hold me accountable?
    Am I rearranging the bookshelves?
How can I lower the bar here?
What if I just begin anywhere (middle, end, in between)?
Can I make a prototype to give some initial form to my idea (outline, rough sketch, mind map, collage)?

  • Questions for Better Decision Making
Continuing our series on the power of well-crafted questions to help us in some of the most important ways in our lives. Inspired by the Book of Beautiful Questions by Warren Berger, today’s episode explores why it is critical to take the time and space to ask ourselves the right questions and being honest with ourselves about the answers before we make high-stakes decisions. I also discuss the integral role of questions to help challenge the fears that so often hold us back from doing something we really want to do but are too scared to do. Questions open us up to new perspectives, challenge our strongly held (but often incomplete) beliefs, and encourage us to consider possibilities for our lives, relationships and purpose/meaning in life — they may even prevent us from the painful regrets of not taking that risk or making the change our soul is craving — which are the most common types of regrets shared by people in their final days. Intentional questions are a superpower in our lives as you will learn all about in this episode!

  • How Curiosity Changes Everything
We are naturally born curious about ourselves, others, and the world, but so often as we grow up, we find ourselves focused on tasks, troubleshooting, and getting through to the next thing. We may see curiosity as something for children, or something frivolous and unproductive to spend any time or energy on.
But there are two lenses we can use for almost any situation that are essentially opposites of one another-- curiosity or judgment. The vast majority utilize judgment and classification of nearly everything (our own thoughts, feelings, actions, behaviors, patterns; others we encounter or are in relationship with; and situations that arise in our daily lives). We classify everything as either good or bad, right or wrong. While this conserves energy for our brain, it has detrimental consequences for us in our personal growth and development journey. Curiosity is a skill that can be practiced on purpose, cultivated, and used more often. We can apply it to literally any situation and find the benefits. Curious to learn more about why this is the case and how to start practicing being more curious on purpose?! :) Tune in!
