Ep. 115: Renacio Reyes (Fashion Designer) "Aedos, The Serpent of Shame" Fashion Show 9-10-24 NYC

Designer Renacio Reyes’ Whimsically Sophisticated collections have been widely received in the Paris, New York and Dallas fashion scenes as Theatrical and Darkly Romantic displays of Fashion Storytelling. Taking large inspiration from Surrealist and Fantasy artist Remedios Varo, Renacio allows the Audience to Escape into the Runways like Falling into a Dream State.

Renacio has been seen in Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, and Time magazine amongst other publications. Receiving formal fashion education from the University of North Texas as well as supplementary Couture training at the Paris American Academy in France. The brand has since shown in New York Fashion Week four times and Paris Fashion Week twice.

Most recently, Creative Director of “Renacio” Carlos Reyes has been announced to be a participant in Julia Fox’s “OMG Fashun” fashion competition. Tune in May 6th for the designers reality TV debut.

BIOS

Gaelan Draper (formerly Gaelan Connell) is an award winning film, commercial director and actor based out of France. His first feature BLOOD SAND AND GOLD (2017 theatrical release) was shot on a micro budget in six countries around the world. As an actor, Draper was the lead in Lasse Hallström’s CHOCOLAT, the lead in Todd Graff's BANDSLAM (Vanessa Hudgens, David Bowie), and others. 

Adam Lasus (born September 2, 1968 in Mount Kisco, New York, United States) is an American record producer, recording engineer and musician. Lasus credits include albums by Yo La Tengo, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Lilys, Helium, Juliana Hatfield, Mark Mulcahy, Dean Ween, Matt Keating, Clem Snide, Amy Ray, Madder Rose, Army Navy, Michael Cerveris, Anders Parker, Chris Harford, Versus, Dumptruck and Gigolo Aunts.

Lasus started Studio Red in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1990, and recorded many indie rock artists there: Helium, Versus, The Lilys, Madder Rose, Space Needle, Varnaline, Joey Sweeney, Matt Keating and many more.

In 1997, he moved to Brooklyn and started Fireproof Recording, a recording studio, which became an important part of the indie music scene in Brooklyn and New York City. While there Lasus worked with PJ Harvey, J Mascis, Joan Jett, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Mark Mulcahy, Spike Priggen, Violet, Daniel Johnston, As well as Members of Sleater Kinney, Cheap Trick, R.E.M., Guided By Voices, The Breeders, The Posies, Sonic Youth, The Beastie Boys, The Go-Betweens and Ween.

Charlie Saxton is an actor, writer, producer, and musician from Philadelphia, PA. He has starred in several television series, including HBO's HUNG, Amazon's BETAS, and FOX's COOPER BARRETT'S GUIDE TO SURVIVING LIFE. Other TV credits include NEW GIRL, WORKAHOLICS, SILICON VALLEY, and THE RECRUIT, as well as voicing the role of Toby in Guillermo Del Toro's award-winning TROLLHUNTERS franchise. Film credits include THE LITTLE THINGS, BANDSLAM, and THE FAMILY FANG. Theater credits include A FAMILY FOR ALL OCCASIONS, directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Ep. 113: Skip Heller (Musician)

Skip Heller is a prolific bandleader, composer, producer, guitarist and music historian.   As a sideman, he has played with NRBQ, Yma Sumac, Stan Ridgway, Big Sandy, and countless others.  He has produced records by Joe Bataan, Robert Drasnin, Big Jay McNeely, Ray Campi, and more, as well reissues of John Hartford, Robert Drasnin, Raymond Scott, Willie Nelson, and then some.  His group, Voodoo 5 featuring Lena Marie Cardinale, records for the Black Fez label.   Their next single pairs them with guest vocalist Jello Biafra.

Ep. 110: Danbert Nobacon (of Chumbawamba)

Freak music legend,” "mischievous political goblin," Danbert Nobacon, a member of the British anarchist punk rock band Chumbawamba since 1982, moved to Twisp WA USA in 2007. He has since released a handful of albums working with musicians and artists from the Pacific North West and Chicago under the umbrella name The Axis of Dissent. The songs embrace a variety of musical genres employing the chisels, knives, microscopes and fine brushwork of art and science to explore the social issues of the day, whilst embracing thespian punk elements that betray Nobacon’s past life as a as an academic studying children’s play whilst moonlighting in Chumbawamba, and sometime High School Drama teacher.

Ep. 109: Angie Moon Author of "Crime of The Century" Interview by Ricky Tucker

Crime of the Century is a nonfiction book about classic rock’s connections to true crime. It’s not just a classic rock book or a true crime book, it’s both! The book is full of over 20 stories about how classic rockers met (or nearly met) murderers and attempted murderers and musicians who killed people. Some of these stories include ones connected to presidential assassinations like The Band playing at a nightclub owned by Jack Ruby, the man who killed JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, Manson Family member Squeaky Fromme (who tried to shoot President Ford) trying to meet Jimmy Page, and DEVO writing a song based on a poem written by John Hinckley, the man who tried to assassinate President Reagan. You can read stories about how classic rockers encountered some of the most notorious serial killers like The Kinks meeting John Wayne Gacy, The Beach Boys meeting Charles Manson, and Debbie Harry allegedly getting into Ted Bundy’s car in NYC. It’s not just an Americanocentric book, there are also stories about The Kinks and Spandau Ballet’s encounters with Britain’s most notorious gangsters, the Kray twins, and Led Zeppelin making a big mistake by hiring gangster turned actor John Bindon as their bodyguard for their 1977 US tour. Section two of the book talks about musicians who killed people like Little Willie John, Joe Meek, Rick Stevens, Jim Gordon, and Phil Spector. This isn’t just a classic rock book, this is classic rock storytelling!

Ep. 108: GODLIS (Photographer)

David Godlis, who is best known by his last name GODLIS, has been photographing in New York City since 1976. A “street photographer” in the style of Diane Arbus and Garry Winogrand, he wandered into the nightclub CBGB’s one night, and has become known for his photographs of the NYC Punk scene. GODLIS, who shot in the style of photographers Brassai and Robert Frank, used his handheld Leica camera and Tri-X film to capture his subjects by the natural light of the Bowery outside as well as inside the club CBGB’s.

His book of those photographs, HISTORY IS MADE AT NIGHT, artistically documented that club between the years 1976 and1979, when Patti Smith, The Ramones, Blondie, Richard Hell, Talking Heads and Television ruled the Bowery. Since the late 1980’s, GODLIS has been shooting the New York Film Festival, where he has been the unofficial official photographer for the last 25 years. Now thoroughly enmeshed in the digital world with a FUJI X camera, he shoots assignments and exhibits his photographs internationally.

His two books of “street photography” - GODLIS STREETS and GODLIS MIAMI are available from Reel Art Press.

Book Description

Suki Jones is a San Francisco Bay Area-based writer, specializing in addiction and harm reduction. She raised two children as a single mother in Oakland and has been sober for 24 years. She has worked with the syringe access program at Glide Church SF and is a board member for the Harm Reduction Treatment Center SF. Her writing has appeared in Stereo Embers Magazine and Broke Ass Stuart. She enjoys long hikes on the beach, listening to Siouxsie and the Banshees, Tower of Power, and everything in between. Her debut memoir, Sea, Swallow Me was published with Embers Arts Press in February 2023.

Ep. 106: Bruce LaBruce (Filmmaker/Photographer/Artist)

Bruce LaBruce is an internationally acclaimed filmmaker, photographer, writer, and artist based in Toronto. Along with a number of short films, he has written and directed nine feature films, including his most recent, Gerontophilia, which won the Grand Prix at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema in Montreal in 2013, and Pierrot Lunaire, which won the Teddy Award Special Jury Prize at the Berlinale in 2014. As a visual artist he is represented by Peres Projects in Berlin, and has had numerous gallery shows around the world, the latest of which, called Obscenity, a photography exhibit, caused a national ruckus in Spain in 2011.His feature film L.A. Zombie was notably banned in Australia in 2010 after having been programmed at the Melbourne International Film Festival. It later premiered in competition at the Locarno Film Festival, Switzerland that same year. LaBruce has written and directed three theatrical works at the Hau Theater in Berlin, including a production of Arnold Schoenberg’s avant-garde piece Pierrot Lunaire at the legendary Hebbel am Ufer Theater. He adapted the latter project into an experimental film, incorporating footage from the stage production combined with additional material shot on location in Berlin. He has also directed theatrical works at the Theater Neumarkt in Zurich, Switzerland, and he participated as a director in the Hau Theater’s ambitious X-Homes project in Johannesburg, South Africa. LaBruce has written a premature memoir called The Reluctant Pornographer, and has had two books published about his work: Ride, Queer, Ride, from Plug-In Gallery in Winnipeg, and Bruce(x)ploitation, a monograph from his Italian distributor, Atlantide Entertainment. LaBruce has contributed to a variety of international magazines, newspapers and websites as both a writer and photographer, including index magazine, for which he also acted as a contributing editor, Vice, The National Post, Purple Fashion, The Guardian UK, and many others. He has also been a regular columnist over the years for Eye, Exclaim! and Vice magazines. Additionally, LaBruce has directed a number of music videos, two of which won him MuchMusic Video Awards in Canada. Most recently, LaBruce has been honoured with film retrospectives at both TIFF/Bell Lightbox 2014, and at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, 2015. The MoMA retrospective featured all nine of LaBruce’s features as well as a program of short films. All of the films have now become part of MoMA’s permanent film collection.

Ricky Tucker is a writer, an educator, and a culture critic based in NYC. His work explores the imprints of art and memory on narrative, and the absurdity of most fleeting moments. He has written for the Paris Review, Tenth Magazine, Literary Hub, and Public Seminar, among others, and has performed for reading series including the Moth Grand SLAM, Sister Spit, Born: Free, and Spark London.
