Show Notes: Diet 101 Eat Well Lose Weight:
So, here are some quick tips on how I’ve been able to shed some pounds –
Don’t starve yourself – if you are hungry, eat a few nuts or energy shakes are great – 4Life.com has a wonderful protein shake – or eat part of a protien bar
Don’t deprive yourself of ALL snacks
Give your taste buds a reboot
Look at what you are eating and when –
No processed foods!
NO diet foods
No low fat foods
No zero calorie foods
SO – how do I lose weight and keep it off – as I shared earlier it is a mindset.
Eating smaller portions
Eating salads and proteins
Eat smaller portions – don’t eat just carbs – add a protein and go light on carbs
Eat stir fry or veggies –
Eat slowly – I realized I eat fast!
Push back from the table.
Put the food on the stove and dish it out – no food on the table within reach

There are times when words are just inadequate – and that is what I want to talk about today.
Times of inadequacy:
When someone dies
When we try to explain a tragedy
When we discuss faith – maybe your relationship with Jesus the first time you gave your life to him in a tangible way
When we are in love
Some things defy words. We can use words to describe these events, however, word fall short.

What are the ways that we don’t use words to convey meaning?
1. Gestures – sign language –thumbs up
2. A hug/ kiss
3. Body language – very subtle but oh so telling – I had a class in college where a psychology professor discussed different body languages and it was so telling. We know the basics of course, crossing our arms, raising an eyebrow, widening eyes – etc.
4. Graphics – see these all over social media
5. Emjoees – when we send them via text
6. Music
While all these things may evoke emotion – sometimes it is better to leave it alone.
Recommendations: When Words Are Not Enough:
Saying nothing – especially if you can’t make it better
Drawing –especially for children
Emoji in text – often express feelings w/o words
Watch body language
A hug or a kiss
MUSIC
Actions
God gave us words – he gave us his Holy Scriptures – those are food for our soul

Show Notes: Teaching Children To Speak Kindly:
Identify the issues
Address the situation
I tried all types of things…
Close proximity
Punishments
Lose dessert
Questions I asked my children:
Do you know how rudely you are speaking?
Would you speak the same way to a friend?
Would you speak the same way if the Lord was sitting here with us. (If God is God and He is everywhere… then, HE is here.)
Phase 1:
1. Scripture verses
Close proximity – sometimes in chairs knee to knee (I was close by)
Having them do kind acts to each other – and the other one appreciating it with words
Play acting and modeling behavior – teaching children the correct response to make
Punishments – one son it took $10 each occurrence to get it to stop (older teen) –my theory that God makes the little ones so cute you can’t ever imagine them leaving home – and when it gets to your older teens, they are the ones you eventually want to help pack when they leave… okay, not quite true but you know what I mean.
It is obviously a heart issue and that is Phase 2
Prayer – pray with that child, ask them why they are so angry. Pray often with them.
Kindness is a virtue – pray specifically for the Lord to bless your child with that virtue
Example – by setting examples we as parents are modeling kindness and love to our children
What does the Bible say?
Proverbs 16:24 Kind words are like honey-sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.
Proverbs 15:26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.
Proverbs 12:14 From the fruit of his mouth a man is satisfied with good, and the work of a man’s hand comes back to him.
Proverbs 10:21 The words of the godly encourage many, but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense.

It is easy to say what you mean, but not so much when you say what you mean with love. Your relationships and conversations are an important part of your family life, yet often it falls apart when other factors come into play.

The critical spirit is pervasive – some people tend to be more critical than others and that is something we need to pray against. We are complex individuals with many God given talents but being critical isn’t one of them. If you tend to be in this category you will have a harder time speaking in love…but it is possible!
The five-point strategy for saying what you mean with love…
Never speak when angry
Be prepared
Recurring situations – address individually – no score cards
We can agree to disagree

Explain your grievances with love and kindness.

Exercise helps our mood
Brain cell growth
Controls diabetes
Lowers the risk for heart disease and cancer
Prevents against osteoporosis
Better endurance
Increase Strength
Exercised does have a correlation to weight, critical to keeping off
A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association followed the exercise
This research supports the findings of the National Weight Control Registry, which reports that 90 percent of people who have successfully lost weight and kept it off exercise on average for an hour a day.
Here is what the experts I’ve read have to say about exercising.
Look at what you are eating – make a list and cut down on the carbs – removing it would be best – but if you can’t cut way down. It will help you burn fat if you are not constantly replenishing that fat. Now I say this to you, as we are to meet my inlaws at a burger shake place for dinner – the only good news in that is I will order an unsweet ice tea and split the burger with my SIL Janice who is visiting. So – while this sounds like I’m failing in my efforts to lose weight I am reporting I’m doing one cardinal rule of dieting and that is to eat less of everything. I figure half a burger is less.
Exercise regularly but if you can do intensity for a short time and then decrease and then increase. There is something about getting your heart to speed up while giving it time to rest is a good thing. It has fat burning benefits – yay! We all want that right.
Understand that the reason we are exercising – I’m saying we in the hopes you are doing this with me – is that we are maintaining any gains we make – it may not transform us to two sizes smaller but it will help keep off any weight we’ve shed.

A person who you deme to be unlovable can control your attitude and mood – or you can pray for the grace to deal with the situation. LOVE – love tends to be what other people do for you – instead of Christian love which is emphasized by turning the other cheek or Matthew 25:40 – Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me..
Nutshell Solutions For Loving The Unlovable –
Treat others as Jesus would
Remember: We are all unlovable at times – Remember to balance tough love with compassion.
The more you love GOD the more grace He will pour out into the situation. Romans 8:38-39
Serve others when there is no way they can repay you… Matthew 25:40
Expect nothing in return – Matthew 5:46 – If you love only those who love you – what reward is there for that…
Sometimes the ones hardest to love are those who need our love the most.
