Today we chat with Amazon Best Selling Author and Accountability Coach, Amanda McKinney about the importance of accountability and goal-setting for entrepreneurs.
She defines accountability as taking ownership of one's actions, regardless of the outcome, and emphasizes the need to let go of what cannot be controlled. She also addresses the issue of guilt and how to manage it when holding oneself accountable.
She explains significance of setting realistic goals based on honesty, capacity, and commitment and advises entrepreneurs to find their community and connect with like-minded individuals to combat loneliness and gain support.
We wrap with a discussion about her book, 'Why Not? The Accidental Entrepreneur's Guide to Success.'

Setting realistic goals requires honesty about what one truly wants and the capacity to achieve it.
Finding a community of like-minded individuals is crucial for combating loneliness and gaining support as an entrepreneur.
Networking events and connecting with others can help entrepreneurs manage their time effectively and stay productive.

There was a surprise, stealthy, mystery guest this year at VO Atlanta, and fireworks ensued!
There I was, on stage in the main ballroom at VO Atlanta, getting ready to take my seat on The Famous Online Casting Panel. J. Michael Collins, the moderator, walks by and announces to the panel, “65 seconds!”
I turn and a man in a blue plaid sportcoat holds out his hand and says, “Hi, Paul. I’m Jay O’Connor, Voices CEO.”
And my first thought was, is this guy gonna curse me out? Stare me down? Take a swing?
Takeaways:
Jay O'Connor, the CEO of Voices.com, made a surprise appearance at Vio Atlanta and apologized for past transgressions.
Enforcing GVAA rates for all jobs would help rebuild trust within the voiceover community.
The practice of triple dipping, charging talent a subscription, 20% of the job, and clients for managed services jobs, was defended by Jay O'Connor.
Engaging in open dialogue and listening to the concerns of the voiceover community is crucial for rebuilding trust.
Leadership within the voiceover industry and advocating for voice actors is necessary for a stronger industry.

The following post appeared December 21st, 2023 on the VOcation Facebook Group:
“Hey everyone. I didn’t want to have to make this post, but I’m trying to look out for others. There is a demo producer and coach who specializes in Children’s Media who has taken money from actors promising to make demos, and then just never made the demos. Some of these demos came in a “2 for 1 package” where one demo was made and the other wasn’t. Other demos have just never been made. This person has also hired adult and child actors for jobs, which they completed, and never paid them. I really don’t want to call them out by name, but if you ask around, this has become prevalent enough that people likely know who I’m referring to. I hope this keeps some people from giving their time and/or money and getting nothing in return.”
Soon after, that demo producer and coach was identified by multiple people on the VOcation Facebook Group as Lisa Biggs, and the original poster has come forward and identified herself as Carin Gilfry.
Earlier, in November of 2023, a group of voice actors sent an anonymous letter to the National Association of Voice Actors detailing their allegations, which in some cases, date back possibly as far as a decade.
As many as 100 people now allege that Biggs has violated agreements she made with them.
Three of the alleged victims have courageously stepped forward to tell their stories.
