In 2024, an iconic company in the dental space will turn 100 years old! To start the celebration we welcome the Director of Marketing Communications with VITA North America Sam Nekola to the podcast. Sam comes on to talk about her role, the history of VITA, many of the amazing products that make up their company, and how they plan to engage the customers as they turn 100. Also joining the podcast is VITA user and past podcast guest Mackenzie Mayer. Mackenzie updates us on her new lab, Bella Dental Studio, why she loves VITA, and her hopes to teach others the VITA way of producing fantastic looking restorations.

We love dental legacies. When we got contacted by a dental technician that works in a dental office with 3 family members as dentists and another getting ready to graduate dental school, we knew a great story of a busy technician would be there. Dr. Jill Morris and Dr. Burr Bakke own World Class Dentistry in Sarasota, Florida dealing in high-end cosmetic work and ceramic implants. They are joined by their son, Dr. Cameron Johnson who specializes in ortho and airway. Both of the younger siblings went to the New York City Tech School of Restorative Dentistry. Sydney Johnson went on to dental school while Kelton Johnson became the in-office technician. They talk about family life, workflow, treatment planning, and leaving a legacy for future generations of this dental family.

We constantly talk about the lack of technicians in our industry. So why are the few programs left struggling to fill the seats? Brooke Harris is out to change that. Brooke is the Director of Dental Technology Program at the Indiana University Fort Wayne school. Brooke talks about getting into dental technology, the labs she worked at, going back to teach, becoming the director, creating a better program, switching to a bachelor program, and trying to raise awareness of the program and the profession in general.

We love it whenever technicians support technicians. And when we found out that 4 past podcast guests started a group to showcase female technicians, we just had to have them back on to learn more. Joining us again are Nina Frketin from Mango Dental Technologies, Deppa Bharakhda from Dencraft Dental Lab, Deppa Bharakhda, and Emily and Eleanor Pittard from The Hive Dental Lab. All four update us on what they have been up to since their previous episodes and how they have grown since. Nina explains the reason for starting Nightshift and how she needed the help of everyone to help grow it. They explain their roles in the group, what the purpose of Nightshift is, and their BIG plans for the future.

Most have heard of the Dental Technician's Guild (DTG) and all the amazing members they have doing amazing work. The person who created the whole group is Von Grow. Von comes on the podcast to update us on the newest Symposium that is coming back after a 4-year break. On September 15 and 16, The DTG Symposium will be held at the GC Facility in Alsip, Ill. Joining Von on the podcast are to fantastic speakers for the upcoming show. Hugo Hébert from Quebec, Canada talks about his journey in dental technology, finding the DTG, and what he is speaking on at the Symposium. Firas Dahbour from Jordan also talks about his journey, his world traveling adventures, what he has gotten out of the DTG, and what he is speaking on.

This week brings us a Prosthodontist that developed a faster and better way to do a full arch immediate load conversion. Dr. Brandon Kofford started his career in the Air Force. After a long and successful service, Dr. Kofford went into private practice in North Carolina. As he started doing immediate load cases, he thought to himself that there has to be a better way. That lead him to develop the Smart Denture Conversions system. This new way will save you a ton of time and produce better immediate prosthesis. Dr. Kofford talks about his journey in dentistry, why he developed the Smart Denture Conversion system, how it works, and how it can make you a better chairside technician!

It’s always sad when good things come to an end and this week we bring you the last of all the amazing conversations Elvis and Barb got when Ivoclar partnered up with us to record at LMT Lab Day West 2023. First up is a 45-year veteran of removable dentures, Glen Smith. Glen comes on to talk about how his lab, Robertson Lab (part of the Apex Dental Laboratory Group) can do so much of their removables digitally. Even after all this time, Glen is full of excitement and passion for this workflow. He talks about the workflow, automating certain steps, and training the next generation of lab technician. Then a “movie star” in our industry stops by, Gary Archer. Gary makes custom dental prosthetics for movies and television shows. He talks about what shows he is working on, some recent movies where his teeth have been featured, the stories behind them, and how he makes some with removable teeth for gory scenes.
