  • Routines vs. Rituals

What are routines or habits that you have in your life? What rituals do you have in place to help you perform better or feel more connected? What's the difference?

"The fight is won or lost far away from witnesses - behind the lines, in the gym, and out there on the road, long before I dance under those lights."

    - Muhammad Ali

It is a common misconception that rituals and routines are the same things with different labels. They’re actually pretty different concepts.

    • Routines make goals achievable
    • Rituals have specific meanings
      • Micro vs Macro
    • Healthy routines and meaningful rituals make us more productive

  • Lone Wolf Strategy

There is a lot of talk about being a Lone Wolf. It can be seen as a positive strategy or negative one. Who are we to judge you, but we will still give you our 2 cents on it.

    Via https://medium.datadriveninvestor.com/being-a-lone-wolf-a2e7d02082b0
The most difficult walk you can take is the one you take alone, but it is also the one that strengthens you. This is the walk that will help you develop your character the most.

The concept behind the lone wolf personality was based on observing the behavior of wolves. In most cases, wolves, just like people, are social creatures. They tend to stick with their respective packs, rarely leaving the group. However, some wolves decide to go off on their own and live life on their terms.

  • Are you a Workaholic?
How would you even know you were a workaholic or not? You may be experiencing some poor physical symptoms born out of stress, or feeling a ton of anxiety about things. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to see how you’re stacking up.We turned the microscope on ourselves and when through the following questions to see how we both stacked up to being a workaholic. Turns out we really aren’t but do have some tendencies that might make it seem that way. There is some nuance to these qualities that you should probably take a long hard look in the mirror over. How do you score yourself?Referencing the article “Tim Ferriss’s Assistant’s Sudden Resignation Serves as a Warning for Trying to Have It All“How to check in on yourself to see if you’re a workaholic:The Charlie and Tim Ferris story – how Charlie almost worked himself to death (for real.) Do I feel guilty or anxious when I’m not working? Have I stopped playing with my friends? Do all of my daily activities revolve around building a more successful career? Am I always sleeping fewer than eight hours per night? Am I consuming stimulants multiple times per day to hide my exhaustion? Am I sitting still and staring at screens for most of my waking hours? Do I interact with people primarily through screens? Am I indoors all day long, depriving myself of fresh air and sunlight? Do I depend on alcohol or drugs to cope with social situations outside of work?Ask yourself, “is this worth it?” Would you still be doing all this work if your doctor told you that you had incurable cancer and had four weeks to live?Probably not.Remember: Stop taking on so much work Stop kissing the butt of a boss Say no a helluva lot more Stop people-pleasing Add more play to your life--- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/warriormindset/support

  • The 12 Steps

We are joined by Dr. Scott Padgett to talk about his journey through the 12 steps. A very humble conversation about what it takes to make your way through the program form his own personal experience.

Link to earlier podcast on the SOCO Show with Dr. Scott. – https://socoshow.com/scott-padgett/

12 Steps as defined by Alcoholics Anonymous:
    1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol–that our lives had become unmanageable.
    2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
    3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
    4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
    5. Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
    6. We are entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
    7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
    8. Made a list of persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
    9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
    10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
    11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
    12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

His work appeared in Billboard, the Village Voice, Rolling Stone and practcally every other regional art/political outlet extant through the early nineties.

After a stint in radio in Los Angeles & later at Warner Brothers Studios, he returned to the south where he and co-conspirator Steve Gibson vowed to bring live spectrum-spanning music to the masses. Thus was born the legendary Rockafellas music venue and artist management company.

Working through Ian Copeland’s legendary musical talent booking firm FBI, the likes of Soundgarden, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, et. al. were initially exposed to club venues all over the U.S.

  • 12 Laws of Kharma
What are the basics of the 12 Laws of Kharma and how can you utilize these to live a better, more purposeful life?According to the article on the Well and Good website: When you live in accordance with these 12 laws of karma, you create good karma in your life, theoretically increasing the likelihood for good things to happen. So what does it all look like in your every day life? How do you live well and with the 12 laws of Kharma on your side?1. The Great Law“Cause and Effect” – Whatever thoughts or energy we put out, we get back—good or bad.2. The Law of CreationYou must create your reality (your future).3. The Law of HumilityYou must accept reality in order to live in it. Own what you can control and let go of what you cannot.4. The Law of GrowthWhen we change ourselves, and evolve, our worldly reality will change and grow as a result. You must always be learning and improving.5. The Law of Responsibility“Extreme Ownership” Jocko – take ownership of everything that happens in your life in one way or the other. “We are responsible for how we show up in the world, how we allow others to treat us, and how we treat other people.”“What you allow in your presence is your standard”6. The Law of ConnectionWe are all connected. Our past, present and future are all us. Everything is linked, all of our experiences and people we’ve met. When we help, teach, love and respect ourselves we do the same for others and vice versa.“Tough times create strong men, strong men create easy times. Easy times create weak men, weak men create tough times.” – G. Michael Hopf7. The Law of Force “Focus”You are a shitty multi-tasker. We cannot truly do more than one thing at a time. We must focus on the task in front of us and complete it.8. The Law of Giving and HospitalityYou can’t just say and think good things, you have to follow through with them. Practice what you preach and walk the walk.9. The Law of Here and NowBe present in the moment. Don’t listen to respond, focus on the world around you while you are in it.If you can endure it, endure it.Set the standard.Be Present.10. The Law of ChangeHistory will repeat itself until we learn from experience and make the changes we need to make. Break the pattern.11. The Law of Patience and RewardHWPO (Hard work pays off) – Matt FraserThe most valuable things that exist require patience and persistence.12. The Law of Significance and InspirationWe are all uniquely oursevlves – with worth and value to offer the world.Links we used for research in this episode:https://www.wellandgood.com/12-laws-of-karma/ https://yourpositiveoasis.com/10-laws-karma-will-change-life/--- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/warriormindset/support

  • Becoming, Responsibility, and Fulfillment; paths to being Authentic

Being authentically you at both work and at home means taking action on the things that make themselves known to you, confronting the things you fear most and walking the walk with the promises you make.

    1. Becoming

“The most common form of despair is not being who you are.” - Kierkegaard

The art of "becoming" is found in intentionally choosing/designing who we are to become.

    2. Responsibility

“We ourselves must walk the path.” - Buddha

Only you have the responsibility to put in the work to be authentically you. Authenticity is found in the work that you do in taking responsibility of who you are and how you interact with those around you.

    3. Fulfillment

“We are our choices.” - Jean-Paul Sartre

The essence in fulfilling who you authentically are is found in creating harmony with the world.

Harmony does not mean quietism; it means embracing our freedom, taking responsibility for our lives, pursuing truth, and creating genuine connections to the world and others. - Beauvoir

It means taking action on the things that make themselves known to you, confronting the things you fear most and walking the walk with the promises you make.

  • What is Self-Gaslighting?

Although we don’t like the term “gaslighting” too much, the concept is a real one and it’s extra divisive when we wind up doing it to ourselves.

Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation in which the abuser attempts to sow self-doubt and confusion in their victim’s mind. Typically, gaslighters are seeking to gain power and control over the other person, by distorting reality and forcing them to question their own judgment and intuition.

    From wikipedia:
The term “gaslighting” derives from the title of the 1944 film “Gaslight” in which a husband uses trickery to convince his wife that she is mentally unwell so he can steal from her. It refers to the illumination of the house which seems to waver whenever the wife is alone at home. The term “gaslighting” itself is not in the screenplay or mentioned in the movie.

  • Fight Club and looking deeply at the world

ight Club is a great movie (and book), in this episode we are investigating it’s literary wisdom by making our way through a really great post on the same subject.

    —

This great post by Shreya Badonia on Medium (Post LInk) about Fight Club and how it helped her question her life in a positive direction. Aaron and I decided to do the say by way of her post. Bravo Shreva!

6 Quotes From Fight Club That Will Hit You In The Gut

Here are some great quotes and thoughts pulled from the episode and article:

We learn late to realize that life is beyond the materialistic world we live in every day.

The only thing that people will remember is how kind you were, how you treated people, and how many people will miss you when you’re gone.

Suffering is unlearning. Unlearning is how we get rid of the old shell and prep ourselves for the better version.

    Memento Mori

“If you don’t know what you want, you end up with a lot you don’t.”

Self-awareness solves multiple issues, but most importantly, it saves us from not being who were are not.

    Remove Your Ego

    https://lukas-schwekendiek.medium.com/remove-your-ego-4ccb89d70cb1

Your ego is an entity of pride that tries to self-sustain you, and therefore itself, by keeping you out of any situations that endanger that pride.

Anything that endangers who you think you are, anything outside your comfort zone, anything you are unfamiliar with and any people, characteristics, actions, thoughts or situations that lead to such things are automatically labelled as “DANGEROUS”.

The ego is part of who we are and will be for as long as we exist in this world.

Your ego is merely trying to protect your sense of self.

The problem is that it keeps us who we are even when we want to expand beyond that.

But when you love your ego, when you love this part of you that only tries to protect yourself, it loosens up.

You must understand the ego and then take the actions you wish to take anyway.

    Are you being an A**hole?

It is always good to evaluate and realize if what someone does is right, and always let others know how you feel if you have been treated that way because sometimes people don’t realize when they are being rude.

Some subtle signs that you are not as “good” as you pretend you are:

    • Think you deserve someone’s attention or affection just because you’re nice to them.
    • You try to convince others why you acted in a way instead of apologizing.
    • You are close to someone for the benefit he can provide you.
    • You are negative about others’ interests because you “think is the best for them.”
    • You take other criticism or conflicting opinion as a personal attack.
    • You think you can make an opinion about other people’s appearances even if it’s for good.
    • You have an attitude at work because “you haven’t had your coffee yet.”
    • You aren’t able to be excited about others’ success because you are working harder.

My addition: You feel that you can always “tell them the truth” no matter that it hurts their feelings or not - because it’s what the “right” thing to do is…
