Today the guys preview the big matchup of the season. Iowa heads into a matchup against the Nittany Lions where both teams are 3-0 and inside the Top 25. Iowa has taken the last 2 matchups against Penn St but down some starters, we discuss what it will take to keep this game close and have a chance in a game that features a 2 touchdown spread. We discuss the crazy white out experience as both a player and a fan, and how that could go poorly or be used to the Hawks advantage. We also talk AI deep fakes of Coaches Brian Ferentz and Matt Campbell, The Roman Empire, and finish with our Ward's Winners segment of the week.

The boys sit down to recap the game from Saturday as the Hawks took down the Broncos 41-10. This game left people with podcasts a lot to talk about as it was the first time this season that Iowa eclipsed 25 points and looked decent on Offense, the first time the line has opened up significant holes in the run game, and the first time the Defense has had uncharacteristic breakdowns in coverage as well. We discuss Cade Mac playing a bit erratic, missing open receivers, forcing throws that turned into interceptions, and holding on to the ball to long taking unnecessary shots. We talk the stable of RBs the Hawks are wielding, the injury to Lachey and what that means for the TE room, and more. Special Teams gave the Hawks a spark and we discuss the improvement week to week in that phase of the game, and Kev gives some Xs and Ox look into the Defensive side of the ball.

Iowa Game breakdown starts at 31:00

We recap the Hawks victory over Iowa State from Ames over the weekend. Kluver attended in person, and talks about the Gameday experience as a fan versus a player and discusses the changes to Jack Trice that have shifted some fun from years past. The boys discuss best college football entrances, and recap the betting slate from the weekend. Then they breakdown the Hawks where the majority of conversation focuses on Iowa's reliance on Gap scheme vs their traditional Zone scheme in the running game. Why are they running more gap, what does it say about our O-line, and how did the Offense look as a whole in Week 2. The Hawks kicked off their 2023 season with a win against Utah St. Final score was 24-14 in a game that many felt the Hawks left a lot on the table. The football season is officially here and so is our first game preview of the year! We kick off this episode with a slew of questions that revolve around game week and what that looks like for the guys. Nick is one of the former Asst Strength Coaches during the Walkons time in Iowa City, and has since moved on to be the Head man at Elon University in North Carolina. He was always cutting edge as an assistant looking to push the field of strength and conditioning forward. The clock ticks down to 9 days away from Hawkeye Football and the guys sit down to discuss a variety of topics. We get Library Gary as he has settled back into Iowa City after a summer back in Denver. We talk throwing up during/before football games. We preview the Backpocket LIVE podcast event that we are doing on Friday, September 1st.
