Washed Up Walkons

Northwestern convo starts at 32:00

A lot of substance in this episode as the first 15 minutes we do a taste testing of 2 beverages from our friends at Backpocket Brewing. Honest, wholesome, alcoholic beverage review from the boys. We then move on to finally recap Nashville as a group of 4, talk about meeting Gary the intern for the first time, the wild experience of Kittle's property and life, and more. We take a look at a few viral videos from the past couple weeks including Jack Campbell and the Wisconsin Football team. Quick thoughts about Caitlin Clark and ZJ playing a round of the JDC together, and a few other conversations. Then we get to the biggest news of the last week, an absolute bombshell story in the Big Ten, the hazing allegations and internal report from the Northwestern Football team. We discuss the oddity of claims, the weird timeline, and the lopsided punishment-firing that happened all within 5 days. We also talk implications on the NW program for years to come.

Ladell is from Kansas City, Missouri and attended Blue Springs High School. By the end of his high school career he was a standout on the football field and that earned him a scholarship to the University of Iowa. He excelled early, was a significant part of the Iowa Rushing attack for his entire career, and is still the only player ever to lead the Hawkeyes in rushing in 4 straight years. His career was uniquely split between Coach Hayden Fry and standing head coach Kirk Ferentz, the man that he now coaches under. We discussed the transition of coaches and what that was like from the player perspective, what the team realized once Coach Ferentz took over, and other details from his career at the turn of the millennium. He went on to have a very successful career in the NFL as a running back for the Washington Redskins, playing in the league from 2002 through 2010. He got into coaching shortly after he retired and spent time at a handful of high schools, before a conversation with his wife sparked a path to thinking about elevating to the college level and beyond. He got the job with the Hawks as RB Coach in 2021.

In this Q&A Episode we spend the first half discussing a recap of the Bo Bower wedding, Drake being broke and needing a job, as well as a Montana warrant in Drake's name. We talk about Riley Moss looking like Mathew McConaughey, Kevin finding his way into the Nashville trip to TEU, and then we get into the questions from the fans. What were our extensive thoughts on the Kittle X Chubbies ad video? What are the most listened to WUW ever? What was it like having Aaron Hernandez's brother DJ as a coach for 2 years? Which former teammates of ours would we hire as coaches for the Iowa staff? Over 5 years post football, have we found something to fill our competitive void, and on a larger scale does it feel like we have found purpose outside of football?
