With an incredible pedigree - one of the producers wrote the book “1001 Films You Need to See Before You Die”, indie actor extraordinaire Kyle Gallner, the DP is none other than actor Giovanni Ribisi - is Strange Darling with its lush filmic cinematography, intense performances, and non-linear, time-jumping narrative THE IT indie thriller of the year (in a year with some sparkling indie fare) or is it pretentious arthouse drivel?

Starring Channing Tatum and Naomi Ackie, the film features a knockout cast of veteran and new actors (Simon Rex! Adria Arjona! Christian Slater!) and starts with an unprecedented trigger warning for the audience. Is this likely-to-be-polarizing, psychologically violent allegory for gender politics and power dynamics albeit gorgeously shot a watch or a skip?

Kicking Episode 92 out of the nest….just for you! 

Emcee and Alex record off schedule and apparently they drank several Red Bulls before recording so you get to thrill as they energetically go cuckoo for “Cuckoo” the eagerly anticipated horror thriller from new (wave?) German director Tilman Singer. Amidst the giallo-esque shadows and John Carpenter nods, a gorgeous cast including Hunter Schaefer, Jessica Henwick, and Dan Stevens spreads its wings to peck away at the central mystery of this sci-fi/supernatural tinged thriller. Jump scares, genital snot, and confusion abounds as your lovely hosts ruffle their feathers trying to understand just WTF is happening here. Flock along with the stumbling as Emcee explains it all to a stunned Cupcake.

The Poor Things over at Watch Skip Plus review “Kinds of Kindness”, the new film by Yorgos Lanthimos, a Favourite of many from Greece to the Alps to the Academy! Bleat all you want, but the film is a return to form for Lanthimos’ singular, visceral filmmaking. Is this triptych with a cast of regular Lanthimos players (Emma Stone, Willem DaFoe, Margret Qualley) the whole Lobster entree and dessert or is it a painful experience like the killing of a sacred deer?
