In this episode, I'll explore the world of pet industry course creation and discuss the benefits of creating your own online course... both to help pet parents and petpreneurs! I'm sharing my own journey of how I grew my pet business with online courses and how this move allowed me to achieve freedom and financial independence.

I'll also discuss some tips for creating effective online courses and promoting them to your target audience. What's great about courses is that you can create one that helps pet parents or you can teach other pet pros how to do what you do!

Finally, you’ll hear part of my conversation with Vasi Siedman, a pet photographer who teaches pet parents how to take better photos of their furry friends.

On this episode, I’m talking with Nicole Wilson of the sustainable pet accessories brand Hudson Houndstooth. We get into the details of what it means to be a sustainable pet brand. I dusted off some of my knowledge from my old eco-fashion blog and we got a chance to discuss the reality of being a product brand where you want people to buy your things, but you also want to be sustainable and not promote conspicuous consumption. It’s a balance for sure! 

Nicole and I also touch on one of the hottest TikTok trends of the moment - which is de-influencing. Basically telling people they don’t need anything new… and how that affects a product business!

Then I’ll share some of the personality tests you can take to learn about your strengths - and I’ll tell you what my results said! And finally, we’ll look at how you can harness your strengths to dive deeper into your zone of genius.

In this episode I’m talking to Josie Gonzales, the inventor of a solution specially designed for people raising puppies. Her invention, the Puppy Nanny looks like a stuffed animal dog, but it’s eqippped with 6 feeding nipples for nursing puppies. Josie came up with the idea when she was raising a litter of 11 pups who needed bottle fed and she just didn’t have enough hands for that!

With my recent foster work I’ve heard so many stories about puppies who are separated from their mamas, and Josie told me that some mama dogs don’t produce enough milk for their litter. For the right customer, Puppy Nanny is a must-have item! I enjoyed talking to Josie and hearing about how she’s getting this new invention into the hands of breeders and rescues.

We also talk a bit about the manufacturing process and what’s next in the Puppy Nanny family. I love talking to entrepreneurs and inventors who create solutions like this. It’s a very specific product, but when the right person is in need, this is a must have!

As you listen, think about your own business and what you provide that is a MUST HAVE for a specific customer. If you don’t do everything you can to get your amazing product or service into their hands, you’re actually robbing them of that experience. I know it’s dramatic! But this is a piece of advice I got from Marie Forleo when I went through B-School. Marie is always reminding me that the world needs that special gift that only you have.

Maybe your special gift is bottle feeding 6 puppies at once, or maybe it’s a unique way of helping reactive dogs, or even the special touches you add to every order you send out. I sat down with Katie Miller of Forever Homes Communications to talk about elevating your pet brand beyond Instagram. Katie and I both agreed that we’ve made a lot of friendships and connections through Instagram, but that email is the key to connecting with your core audience. Email also lets you segment your audience in a way that social media doesn’t.

One thing that I was surprised to learn in this conversation is that Katie started a daily email newsletter. Every day she features small business and animal rescue news while also promoting her own online marketing services. That goes to a segmented list of people who signed up for the daily newsletter.

This conversation also took a little detour to touch on the new AI copywriting craze ChatGPT. Can you use this tool to write your emails and blog posts? Hear what Katie and I think!

Today’s episode is about working smarter, not harder! I found my inspiration for this topic while going through Marie Forleo’s B-School back in 2021.  There was an exercise in the first module called Profit Picture that helped me realize a big mistake I was making in my business. 

I was putting more effort into marketing and selling a $7 bracelet than I was putting into marketing and selling my flagship $300 online course. When I realized this and corrected it I was able to make over $10,000 with the course (versus the $100 I made off those bracelets!).

I thought that before I hit play on the interview, I’d kick off this episode with my own “Happy’s and Crappy’s”.. My happy this week is my new foster dog Chloe. She is a Black Mouth Cur Shepherd Mix from rural Mississippi. She’ll be available for adoption from Animal LIfeline Pittsburgh.

On the other hand, my crappy this week is how many friends have had to say goodbye to their dogs lately. Several of my dogstagram and dog blogging friends have watched their dogs cross the rainbow bridge or they know it’s coming soon. I’ve cried over a lot of them because I know the pain their humans are going through.

I feel so grateful and lucky to have a worldwide community of people that I know so well and care about so much… all because we like to talk about our dogs on the internet!
