On July 19th, 1969, Senator Edward Kennedy, scion of the greatest political dynasty in modern America, drove his Oldsmobile into a pond. He escaped. But his passenger, a woman named Mary Jo Kopechne, drowned. In the days that followed, he leveraged the Kennedy political machine to shield himself from scrutiny and safeguard his presidential aspirations. As the investigation progressed, his story about the events leading up to the crash started to fall apart. Soon he faced accusations that not even the Kennedys could overcome. This season of Even the Rich tells the story of Chappaquiddick, listen now at wondery.fm/weirddarkness_ETR

IN THIS EPISODE: In recent years, stories of personal encounters with shadow people have flooded the Internet. So much so, that a subcategory of Reddit was created solely for those who have experienced a shadow person and wish to share their story. We’ll share some of those reports. (Real Life Encounters With Shadow People) *** Many towns have tales of an old woman who might be a witch of some kind. Warrington, England had its own local, evil crone. She was known as Old Peggy Gronach and was described as being “evil, ugly and haggard.” But was she truly a witch? Many people thought so! (The Strange Tale of an English Witch) *** Succubi are female-appearing sexual demons that approach men in a variety of ways, usually while they are sleeping, then seduce them. Often men report that their experiences with succubi are positive and enjoyable, but just as often, they report that the pleasure had a thread of something evil running through it… and that thread leads to utter destruction. (The Deadly Allure of the Succubus) *** And the woman you are living with right now – your own wife or girlfriend – is it possible she is a succubus? We’ll look a bit deeper into the signs of a succubus so you can be aware and on alert! (Is My Girlfriend a Sex Demon?)

IN THIS EPISODE: The reason I’ve titled this week’s message “FAKE FAITH” (or “Will The Real True Christian Please Stand Up”) is because I think many Christians either believe they are walking the right path – and are not… or are walking the right path, but are continually doubting themselves. We need to learn (and I’m talking to myself here as well) to learn how to maintain a genuine walk of faith.

IN THIS EPISODE: It’s the classic horror story, “The Man Who Returned” by Edmond Hamilton. Originally published in 1934, "The Man Who Returned" is an effective horror story.  Since first transmitting its sad and cynical realism from the pages of Weird Tales, it has been reprinted in numerous collections of stories from that magazine, as well as in a 1980 volume entitled Fear! Fear! Fear!

IN THIS EPISODE: Deep in the bowels of London is a railway built to serve not the living citizens of the city above… but of the dead below. (Railway of the Dead) ***
Sometimes they are kind towards humans, even assisting them if in distress, or giving gifts. But some consider them lustful and evil, and still others claim they are the risen dead of brutally killed women. And there are reports of them being seen even today. We’ll look at the history and lore of mermaids. (Mythical Mermaids) *** For years, Country singer Johnny Horton told friends of a premonition he couldn't shake. A premonition of his own death. Not just THAT he would be killed… but HOW. And he was eerily accurate. And that wasn’t the end of his tragic story. (The Last Ride of Johnny Horton) *** Camping can be an amazing experience, especially when with friends or family. But even surrounded by those you love, when it gets dark, the wilderness gets creepy. Was that just an animal in the woods you heard, or something more? Was that blur you just saw a trick of the light or is there really something circling your campsite? I’ll share some true stories of campers who experienced much more than what they bargained for. (Camping With Ghosts and Monsters)
