Born in Wyoming, he got to Arizona as soon as he could. He grew up on the Oak Bar Ranch north of Nogales and graduated from Patagonia High School. Dan rode saddle broncs and rodeoed in college as well as in the PRCA Turquoise Circuit. Dan has worked on many ranches large and small, ran a guiding and pack business, owned an arena, and even hauled livestock. Dan currently ranches in Santa Cruz County and is well regarded as a "cowboy's cowboy."
