This week Derek is joined one on one with Diane in Denmark, the incredible life coach from Scotland who now calls Denmark home. Diane explains the habit of winterbathing to a hypothetical American listener and then explains her hot and cold thoughts on various seasonal activities and trends associated with Christmas and New Years from ugly sweaters to dry January. You’ll hear Diane’s story of moving to Denmark for love over 20 years ago and raising a family in a new country and culture.

We focus on Diane’s lessons from life coaching and how the country of Denmark and Danish culture has influenced her practice. From minimalism to self-care, Danish culture is infused in the work that Diane does as a life coach. We look at the importance of routines, especially for those in their early days of moving to a new country, especially those taking up a new life in Denmark. Diane even gives Derek (and Mike) some sound advice on how to build routines, set up time management methods, and declutter in 2024.

This week actor and comedian, Jeff Bond, joins Mike and Derek in the studio. He shares the story of how his life in Denmark came to be from a part in the Crazy Christmas Cabaret, one of the most successful theater productions in Europe with an annual home at Glassalen in Tivoli Gardens.

Jeff, Derek, and Mike share their most annoying jobs during the holiday season and all of the things they love and despise about Christmas. Jeff shares his experiences working as an actor and comedian in Denmark versus the UK. He explains the lessons he learned while working with a British acting company and performing in the Danish theater scene to a mostly Danish audience - lessons that have helped him rotate between performing Shakespeare and stand up comedy in Denmark.

It would have been a crime to have Jeff in the studio and not ask him to display his acting talents - which he did by performing a dramatic monologue to one of the most iconic Christmas movie scenes.

Annie Samples aka Annie in Eventyrland is back at the table with Derek and Mike to talk more about being a mom in Denmark compared to the United States. Specifically, Annie tells us about her experiences with pregnancy and childbirth in both Denmark and America. Along the way you can share some laughs about 90s American television shows and how their titles were translated into Danish. 

Annie gets personal about the journey to having her daughter in Denmark, and the support that she received in the process. There were a lot of decisions along the way that were different than in America. You’ll hear what services she was hesitant to take advantage of, and the outcomes they ultimately held for her and her family. Annie also put Derek and Mike on the spot regarding whether they’ll be getting kids of their own anytime soon and it seems like she’ll be meeting them at the playground in the future.

This week Annie Samples joins Mike and Derek in the studio, but you may know her as Annie in Eventyrland. That’s the name she uses while taking over TikTok and Instagram by sharing her life as an American mother raising her four kids in Denmark. 

She opens up about the highs and lows of living in Denmark as an immigrant and her path to becoming a content creator. Mike, Derek, and Annie discuss some of their run-ins with American police - and you’ll find out which one of them ended up handcuffed in the back of a police car after a low speed car chase. 

Annie shares a few things about raising kids in Denmark that she avoids talking to her American friends about, like when she’s not really sure where they are several times per week. You’ll also hear how a social media post about Danish babies napping in strollers took Annie’s content viral around the world.

Derek and Mike welcome back Adrian Mackinder, a British writer, actor, comedian, and man of many talents. In honor of Mike’s upcoming birthday, Mike and Adrian team up for a game where they have to identify historical figures that may or may not have lived longer than Mike. Adrian then discusses the biggest challenges and cultural differences he has experienced when moving from London to Copenhagen.
