Holiday Season is in full swing!
We often associate the holiday season with greater levels of kindness and being more generous with our fellow man.
We go out of our way to be nicer to people.
There is nothing wrong with this as long as we continue to hold fast to our boundaries.
But often we ignore our own boundaries and quickly end up in the territory of “people pleasing.”
We want our boss to like us so you don’t voice your holiday downtime needs or we don’t voice when we are exhausted from all of the holiday overtime hours.
We want our family to like us so we subvert our own needs, we let them say things that they think are coming from a place of love but actually ends up hurting.
We want our kids to like us so we overschedule holiday activities or we overspend on holiday gifts thinking we can buy their affection.
Over and over, we compromise ourselves and actively harm ourselves because we think we need to please everyone else…EXCEPT ourselves.
It doesn’t have to be that way though.
It is possible to be kind and loving to others while also respecting our boundaries.
We need awareness, understanding and tools to help us navigate this complex human behavior.
