There was a season where I kept thinking, “If I could just hold everything together, maybe I wouldn’t fall apart.” But when things didn’t go the way I wanted - when someone pulled away, when life got messy - it broke something in me. I didn’t want to try anymore. I wanted to retreat, to make myself smaller, to stop caring so it wouldn’t hurt.
