In this episode, I want to share some thoughts on receiving negative feedback, either in our posts on social media, podcasts, in real life, from family, friends or wherever. “There is only one way to avoid criticism: do nothing, say nothing and be nothing.” ~Aristotle. This is a tough one and my inbox has been full lately of dm’s of people I know and don’t know with positive and negative questions, so it felt appropriate to bring this topic up on this podcast.
In this episode we discuss:1)First off go inward. When the negative messages show up, check inward. How are you showing up, what are you saying, are you being honest with compassion, are you speaking your truth, sharing your story? Are you speaking from a place of being inside your story or on your story? This shift is huge. 2) Don’t let shame be part of the narrative. Shame is a very powerful emotion and it keeps us stuck in our stories. Shame goes very closely with bitterness, anger, resentment, and armouring up. This only continues to squash our voice and give away our own personal power.
3) Control what you can control. Break it down and take full radical ownership for your choices, actions, behaviours, etc. This is where your own personal power lies.
4) Watch or decrease your expectations especially for the things you can’t control. 5) Stop trying to prove yourself to whomever, this proving energy comes from a place of lack and will put you on a hamster wheel that is so hard to get off of. 6) Treat people how you want to be treated, rise above and BE the change you wish you see in the world. 7) Go back to your core values. This is the foundation for everything you say yes and no to and this is how you know yourself and when you know yourself it is SO much easier to respond instead of react
