Whats Next!? Podcast

You're going to want to listen to this episode this go round rather than to watch it because the visual was cut short; that's my mistake. If you are reading these episodes notes, I started out asking Eli what he wanted my fans (yes fans) or listening audience to take from the podcast concerning Him. He said that he had the courage to stick with something and see it all the way through, he stuck with whatever he wanted to do. He never looked a failures as if they were failures. He looked at failures as learning experiences and something that he could build on for the next thing! Eli wrote Teach like a Christian to Inspire teachers in Christ. He states that he was a good writer in 4th grade! I find out that Stumbling Blocks (33:08) was his favorite chapter in the book! He reference script by saying that “Wow to those who actually bring the stumbling blocks.” A stumbling block from the conversation I gathered is a hinderance! Something that we subconsciously teach kids! Stumbling blocks is a chapter that highlights what the individual does in the hinderance of kids! To be honest, and this is me being totally transparent; its been a long year. What started out as the best year of my life turned out to be one of the worst years of my life! I had a man's joy in having my first child born be a son and then HE ended up passing away! Can you imagine the anger and misunderstanding! Through it all I know that GOD IS... I end the last EPISODE of 2019 right where I started in my humble abode, this go round I have my wife as a guest! we talk about a lot that occurred in this decade! We talk about our journey to December 31, 2019... I'd like to thank all of the features that blessed my podcast this year. it is because of you that people have begun to associate me with the word consistent! I got a few more steps to be able to take the city over! I pray that I can accept those critics, the constructive criticism and the support! I pray to Jesus Christ that in 2020 I can look back to 2019 and know that I am walking in my purpose! I have been told before that I have a nice voice! I in turn have agreed subconsciously and have echoed the same sentiment about others. I remember meeting Zen Ase at the I Am A Survivor Seminar sometime earlier this year and I thought; Yo her voice is nice! I approached her after the show and introduced myself saying "Your Fathers are not disposable piece was incredible" I went on to say, "I think you have a beautiful voice; I do a podcast and would love to have you on sometime!" Well the moment is finally here! Meet Zen Ase a spoken word artist from the great city of Houston! We talk about her beginnings in poetry and how she started her LAUGHZ AND LYRICS show. She performs two pieces called "My Name is Zen Ase" (8:40) and "Fathers are not disposable" (28:39) which by the way will be posted on my instagram later today (12/24/19)! In my name is Zen Ase, she details the origins of her name and sites that in college people enjoyed her voice! She mentions finding purpose in her life during the time! Its the way she performs her poetry that has me locked in. She just flows as in speaks and it sounds like she personalizes it! Get Zen, Stay Zen, Spread Zen is her slogan and her show is an escape she claims! We talk about branding through Merch, we talk about the late great Nipsey Hussle, we talk about the award I was nominated for on Malcolm X day and more during Get Zenned!

The year is rapidly ending and when I look back at all the episodes that I have been blessed to produce, I've talked to a plethora of creatives! That is I have spoken to creatives that paint, rap, write, preform poetry! I have not spoken to the creatives that review movies! You know how Texans feel about people for Louisiana and the state in general, we go there for their food, the casinos and to get to Florida! I know without a shadow of doubt that episode 41: South Tower is the best Episode I have done this year. I will have my wife on the last episode of 2019 so for sentimental value that episode will be great! Listen if you don't know who I am, allow me the opportunity to introduce myself. One of the members of the group made his first beat at my apartment back in the day! He would go on to create more beats and be apart of a conglomerate that would set the University Houston campus a flame. Finally out of the 30's, I'm back on the Whats Next!? podcast in my father's office. This week I talk to the illest poet in Houston, TX. He sites the likes of Maya Angelou and Saul Williams as the celebrity poets; along with Houston's Spit Kodak and Self the poet as local poets that motivate him. You may have heard Courtney and me reference him in episode 39; so we had to bring Vincent "Blackbluez" Johnson out! We find out that Bluez has been writing since he was younger and a piece he turned into his teachers became the blueprint to his classmates. It was there that Blackbluez found his gift! His song on his mind during the episode was Fear by kendrick Lamar (19:51). I went with K.O.S. (Determination) by Black Star and Lately by Tyrese. Blackbluez spits his "Identical" (21:05) piece where he states that the motivation to write it came from Caucasian people telling him he looks identical to every black actor. So he decided to write the poem according to that association. Vincent explains how to get more recognition as a poet. He gives us a snippet of the poem that is brings acclaim in Houston! He's a father, Educator, athlete and lover of kids. He accredits the lack of a father as the main tool that drove in the direction of mentoring kids.
